I finally got a domain name for my website instead of using the default subdomain from my web hosting. The next day, I got a request for pickup from a local school district. 19 imacs, 3 emacs, 6 ibooks and a hp laptop from one school and 3 more apple laptops, powermac and a few printers and fax machines from another. 2 days later, got another request from somebody just right down the street to pick up 6 desktops, a laptop, a box of hard drives, another box of cd roms and floppys and another box of expansion cards and ram along with some more miscellaneous stuff.
I still have to make a trip to pick up 40 powermacs that I have arranged with another person.
I need to make a trip to the scrap yard at lunch today to drop off my pile of computer cases from the garage to make room for this stuff... I'll be going through the emacs and imacs tonight to see which ones work (or can work with minimal effort). I'll be scrapping the rest for fast turnaround to make room for the 40 powermacs... I need to pick up a charger for the ibooks to see which ones are refurbishable.
A few weeks ago, I got a kodak easyshare printer (picked up from a computer shop last month along with 4 laptops and a few desktops) that I'll be using for printing flyers. Just got the new ink cartridges off
ebay this last week so I need to get that set up and print those out so I can hand deliver them to local businesses.
Now that things are moving along with this stuff, I have a few questions...
1. What are others doing with circuit boards that have gold plated chips on them (soldered, not removable)? Saving them for a high-grade shipment or ebay? Desoldering the gold plated chips and tossing the rest of the board in with the medium grade boards?
2. Does anybody know of any
escrap buyers on the west coast (I'm in Washington State)? I haven't had any luck finding any out here. Most of them are on the east coast or south. Shipping will really cut into profits as a 50# box costs about $50 via parcel post or $90 via priority mail. I was thinking of doing ebay, but prices are about $2-3/lb instead of $3-4/lb.
3. Has anybody compared the prices of cutting off the fingers of expansion cards and slot processors vs leaving them on? I know you get more for the fingers, but get less for the rest, so I don't know if it's worth it or not. I'd hate to trim off all the fingers and then find out I spent all that time for nothing...
