water cooled computer ?

picked up some scrap today from a couple of my custmmers, and low and behold when I opend one of them it actually had a huge fan attached to a radiator, just like a miniture version of a car fan and radiator. first one I have seen, sadly the chip was missing, would have liked to have seen that one.

YEs they make water cooling for computers. the chip was no different than any other chip in any other computer. This is just a better way of cooling computer parts. Its not really water either its a special non conduction solution.

No for your normal every day computer at home the liquid is simply distilled water. Sometimes people add "Water Wetter" to it. It's an additive to water that reduces it's friction and allows it to flow more smoothly.

Distilled water is used because it often has very few particulates in it. This allows you to spill some on electronic components and still have a "Chance" of saving your equip. My friend had a pipe burst in his while it was on. 6 liters of water later after letting it dry it fired right up.

People more dedicated to the cause do use other liquids. You can get "Hospital grade" water. At $15-20 per gallon not many people do. This is much cleaner than distilled.

Now super computers or huge servers are normally cooled with a special liquid, but can also be water with special additives.

Well the coolant I use to use when I had my extreme gaming machine wasnt just distilled water. That was the main ingrediant in the mix but it wasnt just water. It was neon green like antifreeze too. I dont remember all the different stuff that was in it but im sure I wouldnt want to drink it.

I scrapped one of these, the case was a little larger than a normal computer case, inside looked pretty much the same (to me.) When I pulled the hose from the "radiator," what came out looked like, and smelled like, coolant. I kept the rubber lines (never know when they may come in handy) and threw the radiator in my pile of misc. stuff that I sort when I bring it in....(radiators, cast car parts, large aluminum, etc.)

I believe it was called "cooler master," I will check and see if i still have it, and will post a pic if i do
