amd athlon processor

I was stripping a tower down tonight and when I got to the processor, this is what I found



I'm new at this e-scrapping thing so I'm a little lost. Does this go in the processor pile? Or is this something different all together? Any info would be greatly appreciated.

It is a slot processor. You'll encounter lots of them though the first threw me for a loop too. They are worth about $10-12 a pound.

Thank you for the help. Now i'm not quite so lost. I've heard of them before, just never saw one.

Maybe you just aren't as lucky as me, I had a guy give me a cardboard box full of them already broken down :-)

those are old processors but it should be set aside with older CPU's pile. I get $15-20lb for those but I do not come by them very much. They were part of PC's in Windows 95 era.

Do you guys break these down and remove the heat sink?

Yup, seperate the chip/board away from the aluminum, plastic and little metal bits and they all go to their own piles.

Yes that is an old processor. Since I have IT backbround I go by age groups of
what Operating systems it was part of (95,98,2000 and XP) and that tells me
more or less when it stands to if I put it in the new CPU or older group.
Many times the older groups of processor has a better value. If you know that it is an
advantage to who will pay you more.
When I started 6mths ago I had not research or contacts on metals so I took it to whoever. Now, with more contacts and research I can get over $20lb on older CPU's an but usually they give you up to $10lb. You will get more once you build your contacts with recyclers in your area.

Keep on looking because the more the marrier. It really boils down to volume and separating everything with more or less value.
