    Thanks Bear. I think I've got it now. It appears that it was a simple "order" issue. If I power up the drive first with the ac adapter and THEN plug in the usb cable to my computer it works. I apparently was too tired and not getting the right sequence. Thanks again for your help and sorry to jack the thread
