    Looking for a joint venture.....

We have an opportunity here in Ontario. Not very many e-waste recyclers here. And at best, they are paying peanuts. We could clean up in Hamilton, Toronto, and the golden horseshoe.
Our problem is customs. If someone could allivate that issue, could make a killing.
Shipping from the USA to China would be the same as shipping from Canada to China?
Not sure where the buyers arew selling but would be interested in making a dealing of some sort?????
    Any thoughts???
    PM????

    Customs

Hey Scott. I've dealt with the border issue a bit in my flooring business. You need to talk with a customs broker. Call around, explain what you have in mind and pick one that you feel would be a good fit for you. Most of these guys deal with high volume and high dollar trade so you may have some leg work to do. Also, some buyers in the US may be knowledgeable wrt customs requirements. Be careful though - a lot will say "sure we buy from Canadians all the time" and not have a clue.

I'd second Otto's caution regarding brokers and buyers. Go through one (broker) who has a designation of Canadian-US customs. Getting hung up at the border is no joke. You MIGHT want to use a freight broker AND a customs broker. Typical scenario is the Canadian freight broker haul to the border and an American freight broker pick it up from there. Some freight brokers are also freight HAULERS (they own and use their own trucks), some freight brokers simply arranged for a truck to haul the freight. The truck, itself, may or may not be cleared for border crossing.

Confused yet? It's easy to get tripped up so make sure whoever you're using as a broker can accommodate the shipment from point of origin to destination. It's really not as complicated as it sounds. Everything should be on your Bill Of Lading which you get a copy at pickup.

(Yes, I was a US freight broker)
People may laugh at me, but that's ok. I laugh all the way to the bank.
