How much metal is in a flat screen computer monitor? I am trying to see if it is worth it to scrap them for the metal inside or just try to sell for parts.

Hi urban, I don't know the answer to your question, but I can direct you to the search feature at the top right of the page. You will find your answers there. May I also encourage you to go the introduction section and read the "sticky" then introduce yourself. We'd like to know more about you so we can welcome you properly.
From what I have read on the forum I understand it does work out. I believe the most seems to be made from easy fixes or selling componets on ebay. As Dee said do some searches and you should be able to find the exact info you need, Mike.

Now go beat the copper out of something, Miked
1 bajillion lbs of metal

Urbanminer, do you have a youtube channel?
We picked up about 20 flatscreen monitors from a business (nonworking) and the majority of them had the same problem. Blown capacitors. We ordered them from a company that deals with the "good" caps. and got about 15 of them back up and running like new. Took awhile to sell them all but at $35.- $40. ea was definitely worth more than scrap value.

How do you find out the capacitor is bad. On many brds. Ifixed in the appliance business it was visible and it was just a matter of soldering in the right part.
Same deal here, if you have dealt with blown caps. before you know what they look like. You know how to replace the new part correctly (+ to+ and - to -). There is some common caps. that blow a lot because they are too small for the job longterm. A blown cap will be bulged on top, or maybe a leak around the side of it, or the crosshash on top is split open. Very seldom will you only find just one blown, usually two or three. Here is a website that has a lot of info plus they do sell the parts you need. I will say you can buy cheaper caps. but you have to have the low noise caps. I didn't mean to Hijack this thread, but if anyone needs any more info, just PM me.How do you find out the capacitor is bad. On many brds.
