Intel 486 SX 25 Built in to Motherboard. Anyone know scrap value

I just opened one of these 486 SX pc's that I just acquired. The cpu is actually built in to the motherboard. The cpu is not in a socket. It is integrated into the board.

Does anyone know the value of these?

Does the cpu need to be somehow removed from the board or is the board itself priced differently from a standard board.

the last few i had like this were bought by Cleveland Computer Recycle, aka boardsort, for around 7 dollars per pound as a "chip board". Thats been awhile and its not listed as a category on their website. The same category as gold ic's soldered on the board

i take my integrated cpu's off. i just hope the buyer will buy them like that. they come off really easy though.

i got full price for the boards. now i just need to get cpu price for the chips.

it does not make sense to me that they will be downgrading the board as all other motherboards have their cpu's removed anyway.

Is there any consensus on what to do with an integrated chip (486sx-same as original post)? I dont really want to tear into this board if it will get more $ left as-is. But a minute with a chisel is easy if it will bring more money separate. Anyone know the best way?

You should get around $6/lb if the board has other nice stuff on it other than just the chip. Weigh the board and see what it would total at $6/lb then see what you would get at $3.50-4.25/lb if you were to take the chip off. If the difference is significantly more than $7.00 leave it on because the chip alone is probably only worth a max of $7.(rough prices and calculations)

I had a few of these last month, some were socketed, and some were loose in my case they were I960 LSI chips. I pulled the socketed ones off. I wish I had pulled them all off because I only got $4.50/lb and in my case prob would have made more removing them.

so are integrated cpu's all alike?
whew, this is confusing, I never though scrapping e-waste was gonna lead to me knowing the insides of a pc down to individual nick nacks, i'm sure the guy selling hot dogs on the street doesn't even know what a hot dog is made of.

I did a compaq deskpro and it has what might be a cpu on board? this board slots into the main board, or is this the video board?
think i took a heatsink off it, there is no sign of a cpu on the main board so i'm assuming this is an integrated mobo?

i'm getting my pc's confused, I should write down exactly what's in what, this one's weird,
the ram chips are tiny, the cpu seems like a normal one..



I do have big hands but still, you can see how small they are.. there's 3 gold fingered ones and 3 silver fingered ones..



is it common to find silver ram? and how common are these little buggers?

The bottom processor is a nice ceramic one $$. From what i understand, you throw all your ram, gold & silver, into one box and they count it as the same by weight (someone correct me if i'm wrong here). The top is a slot processor and you turn it in just the way you have it. I really dont know if you have to bag it seperately, or put with finger boards, or put with processors...so i'm looking for an answer there as well. So far i've just been keeping them separate. The 486sx integrated processor this link refers to is similar to the one in the second picture labeled UMC, except a bit larger. I'm planning on taking mine off unless boardsort or ewasted or another buyer informs me differently.

I actually got one just like your bottom pics, cant remember the brand but it was missing the CPU Was an i486. Anyways, the board had 8 RAM slots and they were filled (yay!) but upon closer inspection they were those little tiny guys, light as a feather (boo).
The card with the big square chip in your first pic IS the cpu. They're called slot processors, and were used through the p2 and p3 eras. They had overheating issues and so they eventually went back to standard socketed chips.

oh, and i think you should remove all those eprom chips and bag separate as well (the long chips with a lot of legs...one is labeled amibios or something)

^Not the best rule of them...A board could have all socketed IC chips only, then you pull them all off and now that high grade mobo maybe even telecom now just became probably a mid grade board....

I encountered a board where all the chips were like that - all IC's in sockets - I couldn't resist and I pulled them all but ScrapYaHerd brings up a valid point. These boards & situations are good examples of why it's a good idea to have buyers that you're familiar with (if possible) and to keep open communication channels with them. That way you both stay on the same page.

The slot processor that you have in the first picture should be separated from ram, finger boards etc because the slot processors are price differently. Prices for the slots run about 10 dollars a lb so about twice that of the finger boards.
