you might sell that apple at the event for a decent sum, depending on it's makings, and if there are any apple enthusiasts around. plug it up and turn it on, see if it works write down anything it tells you about the system
you're right about separating the CPU from the heatsink and covers. You might possibly sell the DVD and CDRW for a couple bucks each? who knows, make the DVDRW a bit higher. I'm not sure about the hard drives, you might be ok to sell them there too, but remember if they were from someone's personal PC it could contain personal information, and treat them accordingly

The event is actually an e waste collection fundraiser so I can't sell anything there... The whole reason that I started this thread was to see if the company that hosted the event was ripping off my little sister's ice skating team by giving them $0.05/lb on what they collected.
    I appreciate the thoughtfulness though!

I see That company is offering the lowest price they would possibly get for the cheapest items collected, and benefiting from profit of everything over, using your efforts to do it. For the most part I believe we've all been offering suggestions for you to maximize the success of your drive, for your own benefit. I'm very new to this forum, and more of a recycler, "use it up, wear it out, make it work, or do without", and this is mostly a scrapping forum, although listed as a recycling forum as well. Most of the folks here can tell you more than me about most of this, but I'll do all i can to be of any help, and I really hope for your success in this drive

I realize it is a fun raiser, but I would sell the material to someone else at a better price, and donate the proceeds to your sisters ice skating.

Not saying they are not reputable, but their prices are ridiculous.

I will buy the dvdrw drives from you and the hard drives depending on size. Take a look at my website or my add in the buyers section. And the tivo thing is just like a computer it has a motherboard and hard drives in it.

When I found out that was all they were going to pay the team it inspired me to start learning about all this - I knew that the computer components had to be worth more than that, at bear minimum and through one of my initial searches I stumbled across this place. I am very happy that I did too! Everyone has been super helpful and willing to offer up anything in order to assist me in achieving my goal. As soon as I posted this thread that confirmed that we were in the process of being fleeced I got permission from my supervisor and took almost everything out of the towers we collected and here we are! I am very fortunate to have found this forum and sincerely appreciate everything that you all have done. The actual collection event is happening tomorrow morning and I'm going to make an appearance to see how the whole thing plays out.

cool! Julie >< ( that's a yahoo hug ; ) I hope it goes good for ya keep thinking you'd do well to have a lot of it in a local sale, most of it isn't worth shipping anyway, and $0.05/lb is hardly even worth toting
