what have I done....

I got a call a couple days ago from a fellow that said he had a bunch of ewaste for me to pickup. Yeah a bunch was right. Took me ten hours to move it all!



I am seriously so over whelmed right now, I don't even know were to begin. I am completely out of space, and even have it piled in the kitchen.

How do you guys deal with big loads? Do you just start at one end of the pile breaking stuff down? Do you try to sort it all first?

I'm not trying to be funny here or gloat (I know how fortunate I am, and really wish this had happened to all of you), but I need to process this stuff fast to at least reduce the space being taken up in our home. Mrs. Devo is not impressed!

Any advice you can offer on how you guy deal with large loads in a timely manner would be greatly appreciated!

Sounds like you need to rent a storage shed for a month!

I would break down computers first and then haul all the scrap metal away to get it out of your way.....Then sell motherboards, cpu, power supplies etc, then work on the smaller stuff like disc drives etc,,,Sale sale sale

i'd stack the computers and smaller stuuff and get rid of the monitors and bigger stuff lol

Like everyone else said get rid of the big worthless stuff quick it will take a big weight off your shoulders when your feeling over cluttered. Be happy you got more than you ever wished for!

Thanks everyone. You guys are right as all ways. Part of the problem was that so much of this stuff was already broken down. I'm finding just sorting it and repacking, and doing the simple stuff like cutting the wires is helping a lot. I think I will try and rent so temp space, I want to avoid the temptation to start unloading just for making space.

Kudos to you! Don't you just love those big loads? I can attest to a mistake I made after my first big load. I was so overwhelmed with excitment from everything that I neglected responding to emails from others who wanted to get rid of their e-waste for a couple of days. For this I lost 4 computers from one lady to my compeitor. I guess what I'm saying is, just breath and create a plan of attack. I would leave all vintage items (and items above scrap value) for last.

I think that was part of the panic. I know I still have pickups scheduled and have zero space to store and process any more. Your right a plan is essential right now. Can't remember who said it but "If you don't plan to succeed, then you're planning to fail"

Congrats on the big score Devo. I had the same "problem" earlier this week. Just flat filled up the garage and blocked in both of our motorcycles. The husband was NOT happy with me. BUT after I cashed in the first 300 today he found his happy face. happy anniversary to us tomorrow!

Check the cost of a storage unit near you. Take a day, get it handled and get it all moved. It will make the wifey happy and from the sounds of it, you should be able to pay for it several fold. If you keep doing good, then keep the unit and keep everything away from the house. Also keeps the bug count down on stuff that lives in electronics. That will keep the wifey happy as well.

The last load I had a bunch of silverfish in. I think I got them handled by sorting out front, taking the boxes straight to the curb and smashing every one that I see, but who knows. I am going to keep a supply of bug bombs and set one off in the garage every time I unload in there. This is yet another reason that I am seriously considering a storage unit. (among many other reasons).

ditto. Although I am gettting close right now. One more good lead before I process what I have and I will surely be grabbing me some extra storage.

Even a 10 x 10 would be great. Room enough for an 8 foot table for tear down on one wall and planty of stacking on the other. It will be the cheapest and the storage company should let you upgrade at any time with no extra charge.

Will do, but need to hit the sack (if I'm allowed). I'll post here tomorrow when I get a chance to organize and process a little. Going a little bug eyed right now.
