Eproms/IC chips - Page 2

OK here I go, first of all I sell the IC chips (the ones on the left, in the pic) to E-wasted for 5.00#. (I hope he dosen't mind me saying that) I have not sold any of the ones on the right but have been saving them. Now this is my question. Has anyone seen the Eproms that are about 1.5" long and a little bit narrower than the regular IC chip, they have a long glass (or clear plastic) window, some are gold and some are silver? They come out of computer scanners. If you open up the scanner there is a black box that rides along a steel bar, take that black box out and on the front there is a small circuit board take the screws out and on the back side you will find this Eprom. Are they worth more and how much are they worth and who buys them? Thanks for any help with this. I know if e-wasted buys the other ones he might buy these also, I'll check with him.

I have been removing IC or Eproms from low grade have I been wasting my time? I'm looking to get better prices for my material that is all..

Eesakiwi, that is the chip I was talking about. It makes sence that they are acanner chips sence they come from computer scanners. Do you know the value of these chips? Happyisthealero, I don't thingk your wasting your time if you find the right buyer, check with E-wasted you'll find him in the buyer/seller section. E-wasted likes to get 10# at a time but will take less if you other stuff to send him, it takes alot to get to 10# but if you get alot of low grade boards you'll do fine.

I should have a pound of ICs or Eproms now. Varies sizes ranging from the late 80's til now, so that means 2inch long by 1/2 in and the smaller surface mounted ICs in various sizes.

Are you saying, just so I understand that, he is looking for 10 pounds or it is $10.00 a pound right now?

And I gotta say I love this website!!!

still worth it then, I will keep pulling them. I use a flat head screw driver to remove them, does E-wasted take them broken?

Yup, 5.00# I don't know about broken chips you'll have to talk to E-wasted about that. I remove IC chips the same way as RCA, quick and easy.

So let me see if I understand this. If I have a board (any grade) and take the little black ships off and sell them separately, will the board sell for the original grade or something less? Like someone posted earlier, if the chips are what makes the board valuable why would I go to the trouble?

If it degrades a high grade motherboard down to mid grade it seems like I may be hurting myself or at least wasting effort. However, on a low grade TV board I can't see how it could hurt because I only get 5 cents a pound for them now (can't degrade much lower than that!).

Has anyone done a breakdown assessment? If so, anyone have the link?

Dremel tools make quick work when removing IC chips and transformers from low grade boards. I save up low grades and remove them all at once and later return for the Al. You don't really need to worry about your buyers discounting the low grades for removing the IC chips as most of us take them in to our buyers in pieces

However, I would certainly worry about removing them from your high/med grade boards.

Here's the math using some numbers in this post.

80 ICs = 1pound
1 IC = 0.0125pounds
1 IC @ $5.00/lb = $0.06 cents.

A 1.5lb motherboard @ $3.50 per pound = $5.25

If your buyer discounts this price of that motherboard by ONE penny for taking off the 1 IC chip you get

After removing the IC your new mother board weight is (1.5lbs-0.0125lbs) = 1.4875lbs

1.4875 @ $3.49 = $5.19
+ 1 IC @ $5.00/lb = $0.06 cents.
= $5.25

You're right back to where you started. You made nothing. If your buyer discounts your motherboard more than $0.01 you've lost money.

Never take the chips off any board other than low grade. It realy depends on your buyer, some say leave all chips on the boards, some say take the chips that plug into a socket off. To be safe only take the chips off low grade boards.

So still no buyers for ccd scanner chips? I'm taking some to my buyer tomarrow, I'll come back to this thread and let you al know what I find out.

Where is the best place to sell eproms I have about 200 or so glass window eproms
