...and may have come up smelling like a rose.
A guy calls me from my Craig's list ad. Says he has 4 towers and a box of other parts. I tell him my pricing and he says to come on over. (I always let them know right up front that I buy for recycling purposes so there are no surprises). He said that was fine and I went right over.
I looked at the 4 towers and 2 of the 4 had nothing but a motherboard left in them. None of them had RAM, and only one had a hard drive. When I told him that I pay less for stripped towers he showed me all of the hard drives and RAM in the box that he had along with a bunch of heatsinks, a bunch of finger cards, and some other goodies. I offered him $25 for the lot and he came back at $40. I went up to $30 knowing I could not go any higher and would only make about $15-20 at that point.
He said that was fine and helped me load up.
About a block from his house I decided to get out and grab the RAM that was in the box and look at it. Here is what I found.
2 sticks of 1gb DDR fancy schmancy with heat sinks
4 sticks of 512m DDR
2 sticks of 1gb DDR2
2 sticks of 2gb DDR3
Looks like about $100 on E-bay for the RAM in 4 seperate lots.
I get home and start looking at the hard drives.
Hitachi 80g
seagate 160g
seagate 200g
Maxtor 250g
seagate barracuda 500g
Looks like another $80-100 on e-bay.
I specifically told this guy that I was buying for scrap purposes both over the phone and when I met up with him in person. He was completely fine with it. Almost wish I had given him the $40 he was asking.
Off to do some testing. I'll report back later.
