So what are your projections....Should I hoard the boards I have or just continue to sell at market value....HMM
im hoarding personally, much as i can at least.
Do what makes the most sense for your business. I dont know much about your situation so cant be of much help.
Just got new prices from Arcoa on monday they were up or stayed the same. If the prices went down for you maybe you should be looking around at other buyers. Most of the time if the prices go down it's only temp. the price of gold has been going down the past week ,maybe that has something to do with it, just hang in there. By the way what are you paying for the towers, if yor paying more than $5.00 maybe pring it down to around $5.00.
I never pay more than 5.....Got 20 today for $70.....Thanks for the input......Money is not an issue but I hate storing this crap it's always in the way LOL
Prices are always going to vary. For me hoarding depends on the quantity I am bringing in. I make my monetary target each week and manage to "bank" a nice amount of more valuable scrap. And $5.00 per PC is a price I rarely go above.
The last time we took a dip I changed my price from 5 to 4. I never went back. So still OK at 4. The exception would be for quantity or charity. There is a local one here that I originally quoted $5 for and have stuck to that.
I am always wondering at what price does gold get to that the boards are worthless? $1,000 an ounce? I would love to see a buyer's spread sheet on what parts would be worth based on gold price with a breakdown every $25 or so. I don't expect to see that as everything has more factors than just the price of gold, but would be interesting to see a snapshot just once.
I agree! And since computer waste is so modular, you can easily sell the steel, MB's, PCI cards, etc. to pay for the inventory and save room; while hoarding RAM and CPU's....which are much more gold dense and simple to store.
And imagine....if a more efficient and environmentally friendly method of refining these items is developed by any of the thousands of companies and individuals tinkering in this field, prices for ewaste would climb to a higher % in relation to the spot price.
we pay an average of $3 per tower (going scrap rate) and have pick ups lined up about a week out. We adjust our board prices according to the weekly payout of our buyers. Most buyers have online pricing or our easy to get ahold if you have a ongoing business relationship with them. Doing it this way we are able to retain our same percentage regardless of where price is. If price goes down we may lose a little, if it goes up we gain a little. We dont pay the same to all of our customers, some are free pick up, some are regular pay scale, and others we have to pay a little more just to get the business.
Solid question! I think having a buying interval is good here. You could start your interval at $2 bucks and range up to $8bucks for newer items with DVDRW and all. I will say this, about 80% of all my computers have come by way of donation. Some people derive more utility from simply donating items for recycle than getting money.
The only yard in my town that takes shred told me today that they won't take stripped computer cases. Due to rules by their buyers. So now I'll probably have to transport them a minimum of sixty miles to sell. At this point $5 a tower doesn't look profitable unless they are like vintage or still working!

As KZBell said, turn it into something that isn't a stripped computer case anymore. It's a pain to have to do it, but it's probably less of a pain than driving a load of cases all that distance.
I know lying is wrong, but if the elephant man came in now in a blouse with some make up on, and said, "How do I look?" Would you say, bearing in mind he's depressed and has respiratory problems, would you say, "Go and take that blusher off you mis-shapened elephant tranny?" No. You'd say, "You look nice... John""
Their buyers don't want them. I mean I broke out the sock puppets to explain to the guy that this was just shred - not components - but their buyers had just read them the riot act - they won't even take beds that have been in hospitials because of the tests that the patients get. Due to radioactive residue. Probably will have to do what you suggest - if I ever get that steady stream of computers - which would be great! Thanks for replying.
Thanks - but it is too small a yard and they are watching me closely now. I thought they were going to ban me the last time.
On the plus side, the guy said that maybe we could work something out about people who bring computers there to sell - maybe I could even put up a sign - so at least they are not competing with me. Thanks for the suggestion though.
