    Question Question on ID, Make-up of items.

    Recently my daughters and I have been tearing down old computers and TVs that we have gathered. I've come upon a few items I just wanted to double check with the old hands here about.

    1) I have 2 very long degause cables from TVs. When stripping the tabe I see a purple color instead of the normal orange or even bright red I've seen for copper. I assume this is still copper??

    2) Two of the computers we scrapped were old pentiums. The RAM is only 32MB sticks. However, instead of gold prongs they look silver. Is it silver or alum on the prongs?

    Tried the search function to find answers but never came up with anything. Did find some threads that I had missed with good info in them.

    the degaussing cable could be copper or aluminum. You will have to cut it to see. I have seen colored copper ones. You can pretty much tell from the weight before you even break into it what it is. Copper is waaaaaay heavier, but you will get the feel for that eventually.

    As far as the RAM sticks, I believe that most buyers on here will let you toss it in with the gold sticks.

    #1 Could be either copper or alum. you'll have to clip a couple of strands and look at the center for sure.
    #2 Most buyers pay the same for either kind of ram, just throw it in the same box. Just look at their pricesheets for that answer. As an example, HERE;
    Memory (RAM)
    Mixed Memory (Silver, Gold, Tin Finger)- $14.50 per LB
    RAMBUS (Metal Covered RAM)- $6.50 per LB
    Trimmed Memory - $6.60 per LB
