Sun Enterprise Server 250 here is what I got from it.

This is one of the servers I was talking about in another thread. Well I broke it down tonight and here are the results. I paid $20 for this at an auction.

As you can see total weight of this unit was 97.7 LBS I put the power suplly next to it so you would have a frame of reference on its size.

Here are the 2 power supplies pulled from it for a total of 20.1 lbs

    Main motherboard at 2.6 pounds

    2 slot CPU's at 1.5 lbs

Back panel boards at 1.3 lbs

    Finger cards at .7 lbs

    wire at 1.1 lbs

    Ram at 1.3 lbs

    Hard drives at 6.2 lbs

    Fans at 2 lbs

Prices as I know them from ewasted and local yard for the not worth shipping stuff.
    20.1 pounds of power supplies $.20 = $4.02
    2.6 pound server board $4.30 = $11.18
1.5 pounds of slot cpu (pricing these as finger cards) $4.30 = $6.45
1.3 pounds back panel (not sure on these prices but i think i got MB grade last time) $3.80 = $4.94
    .7 pounds finger cards $4.30 = $3.01
    1.1 pounds of wire $.97 = $1.06
    1.3 pounds of ram $14.80 = $19.24
    6.2 pounds of hard drives $1.10 = $6.82
    2 pounds of fans $.20 = $.40

Total for about 15 minutes worth of break down and taking pictures = $57.12 I think thats well worth it to pay $20 for one of these big servers if they are all there like this one. GRanted this is total scrap value I am sure some of these parts can be sold on ebay for greater than scrap value. Hope this helps some of you out there on at least this type of server and what you can get out of it.

    EDIT

I forgot the left over shred of 62 lbs for another $8.00 so total of $65

I just took apart a Dell server yesterday. It had 4 power supplies, but was missing the harddrives. Everything else was there. Took me a second to figure out how it slide apart.

Great break down and photo's. Only question is your price for scrap hard drives, where can I get $1.10/lb? Also did you include the value of the boards on the back of the hard drives? Mike.
