    Pentium Ceramic mmx??

    I have a client who says he has some computers with this processor........How do I grade them and he wants to know if I'll pay more than $5 for them........I know what I want to say but any suggestions?

    There were black fiber Pentium chips with MMX as well as ceramics. I would suggest inspecting them before making an offer. Figure that scrap value is around 1.50 for a black fiber processor and about 2.50 for the ceramic. You would still be making a decent profit if you had to pay 6.00 per tower. If it was me, I would not let 1.00 per tower be a deal breaker IF they are ceramics.

    I am still kinda new to ewaste....I usually just send my processors off to be graded but how can I tell the difference just by looking at them THANKS FOR ALL THE HELP

    the gold cap is a good sight ; ) i think the mmx came along maybe as early as the pentium 100s, might need to double check me on that. I looked at one earlier that was a black fiber 233, i didn't even pull it off the heat sink to check, but i doubt it's got the gold cap

    I am going to stick to my guns at $5 I don't want to get into nickels and dimes with anyone over these computers........I have to break them down sell them etc.....$5 is more than fair for a junk computer....LOL

    pretty much since the pentium pro 200 there haven't been many gold caps

    The 100's were MMX on the later ones right before the black fiber chips.

    Mike, the easy way to tell is by color. If they are a brownish purple color, they are ceramic. If they are black, they are fiber. I agree 5.00 is plenty for a junk computer, but don't let a buck or two kill your deal.
