Anyone know of a UPS backup battery buyer in the South Florida area?

Have you looked in the Buyers and Sellers forum?
People may laugh at me, but that's ok. I laugh all the way to the bank.
Your name implies you are a logical person, your post implies otherwise.
Any scrap yard will buy them. They are a sealed lead acid battery.

not any scrap yard. there are a couple here in denver that dont buy batteries. Dont ask me why but they dont.
Thanks Mick and parrothead.
I wouldn't sell them whole. The are easy to breakdown and the majority of the weight is a transformer and the batteries.
I have about 50 APC UPS 300/450/500/600 dead units. Do scrapyards buy the dead batteries, or is it just a matter of doing the right thing to recycle them and keep them out of the landfills? I plan on going to Batteries+ to get some replacement batteries for like $10-$15 each and sell the units for $25-$30 a piece... unless someone has a better suggestion of what to do with them.

Some of those units have 4 to 6 batteries each, I don't think you would want to spend $40.-$60. to make $30. Break them down, sell the batteries, sell the transformers, and sell the low grade boards, and steel.

If you enjoy your freedom, thank a vet.
I'm hoping the scrapyard here takes them, I've already got 2 in the truck. They're not regular lead acid, but i think they have some kind of a gel in them making them "spill proof", like the ones used in battery powered wheelchairs
what Mechanic said AJR. I broke one down today that had two batteries and a 21 pound transformer, which I also broke down. Looking back now I think that was a waste of time, even though it had some first rate copper in it. (4 pounds #1 just from the transformer)
Thanks for the advice... looks like another project for me!
get you a cordless with an extra long extension philips tip, and a "cordless driver-1/4" socket" adapter, a long 1/4" extension and some small sockets, those things were made for stripping! The only thing wasn't easiest to use a philips or a socket on was an internal fan i just nailed it with a hammer, and done!
Nothing like beating the crap out of scrap! I have a nice 19.2v cordless that lasts for a long long time and a detailed bit/socket set so I should be set. Now to find the time...
The batteries should sell for anywhere from .25-36 / lb as a lead acid battery. Do not take apart the battery. Theres a ton of yards down by you espeacially on River Road. Check out Federal Metals or All Florida Scrap or the many others there.... Pm if you need nmore info
So grainbow, why wouldn't I get more for separating the batteries from the steel?
