Good idea - I'm thinking that looking for some sort of rental place down there may just save me in the long run just in case. I don't have paypal but i don't see why it would be a big deal if i paid once i got it. I mean how does the payment system usually work on there? Does a seller wait until the payment is received before they ship the item?

Yes, they wait until paid, but many have a 3 day limit. If you need to get the payment made, I'd recommend using USPS money order (in case the deal turns sour, you can still file a complaint with them), but I'm not sure what changes have been made there. I saw on some listing that ebay no longer has options for paper transfers of money? (whatever that meant)

Did you try using that card to pay through Paypal? It might be possible to just make the payment there with it

Paying through Paypal you'll still have the "significantly not as described" argument, if it does turn out to be already stripped, or they insist that you remove car tires etc. Keep in contact as far as necessary with them to avoid misunderstandings, I'd keep that in emails though instead of going to the phone, so you'll have some records just in case. I'm hoping this deal works out for you Julie, and everything is as they stated(just keep your guard up in case they get too far off base ; ) and try keeping it all as friendly as possible. You might can use an " i need to know exactly what size truck/trailer this will take " for your "preview" request, then after you've looked it over real well decide whether to rent a truck or go back home lol!

I was looking into the cost of renting a truck and it's pretty expensive! Does it cost more if you drop it off at another location if they offer than service? If I can use the company flatbed it seems more cost effective to just drive it down there when i compare it to the quotes that i got for renting a truck.

Does the flatbed have (or can it be fitted with) any sides at all? Some flatbeds have slots that will hold a 2x4 (use treated, about $3 each, cut em in half, and some 1/2 or 5/8 plywood cut in half too, screwed together, take some ropes too for tying it down) Maybe use it, and see if you can find a trailer somewhere

That's what I thought but to get a 10' truck for 1 day from here jamestown to here is like $150 if not a little more than that. Jamestown is pretty far though and it's the miles that get you in the long run i'm sure.

If your flatbed has a trailer hitch how about renting a Uhaul trailer instead.

Julie, you sound like me when I bid on a lot that was about 700 miles round trip. I won the bid, and then got to figuring out the logistics. (I had a general idea but it wasn't a for sure thing)

Best of luck and hope it's profitable.

This is the flatbed that I'm hoping to use - I don't think that I will need a trailer necessarily I don't think

I actually talk to the guy today and I'm not worried at all anymore. I'm going to call the lady that owns the property that the pile is on, I'm paying her directly when i get there to load it all up, and as a bonus i guess there are a few other scattered computers on her property that i'm supposed to remind her about that i will most likely be able to grab too. Now my biggest concern is gearing up for potential rattlesnakes and spiders while we load the stuff. Yay

thats awesome Julie, Bring plywood then cause your gonna need higher sides theres alot of crts in that pile and they eat up space.

Im just excited to see what you got coming in. best thing to get is gloves and a big stick. just push the area of the pile your taking down and move it up some that way if critters are there they can scamper out. bang on tower cases to check for bee hives. Hell you need to bang on everything in that pile lol.

Bring a hoe. Very useful for grabbing something and flipping it from a distance to check for snakes, etc.

Never bad advice. Heck, bring a few.....that way somebody can refill your lemonade and wipe your brow while you dictate how the truck is to be loaded.

Coolio! woot! woot! Couple pieces of plywood near the front would maybe double your carrying capacity, don't forget the rope ( if those rails lift out, don't use them for tie downs) maybe a sturdy step, like a sturdy little wooden box, to step up on at the rear when you're lifting stuff up to the bed

Thanks everyone for the support and great advice! Big time thanks to Parrothead for posting the lot in the first place! I'm shooting to go down there this coming saturday and I will take pictures every chance I get. As far as snake gear goes - how much do you think it is for one of those shark proof chainmail suits? lol. If anyone has specific rattlesnake advice i would love to hear it so i can incorporate it into my attire/gear.

I like to wear high top lace up boots (hiking/work boot type) and I've read the majority of snakebites occur to the hands, when someone reaches into a spot they can't see (so please avoid doing that)

A .38 revolver loaded with shotshells is pretty standard snake medicine. Also, be aware that critters can and will reside within the systems themselves. I have opened lots and lots of computer cases with everything from mouse droppings and urine to cockroach egg cases inside. I would maybe look into getting some high quality puncture resistant gloves to protect you from sharps and wildlife.

I surely hope this turns out well for you, otherwise I will never post another op again. Fingers crossed and excited for you.
