So my wife went shopping and spent $20 on a "Mystery Box"

Well my wife went out to find some more stuff for us today. She wasn't that successful in getting computers or anything but one place did offer a Mystery Box?????

My wife said the guy told her it's been in the back room since he started. It was sealed with tape, was kind of heavy and didn't know what was in it. Well the box said Proc's on it and it was indeed heavy.

Here is the box she bought. She had to buy this w/o looking inside and just went with her gut.

So she gets the box home and forgets about it. During dinner she starts talking about it and we decide to throw it on the scale. 6.9 pounds. Not to bad. But im still thinking in my mind. Great she pait $20 for steel or something stupid.

Well we opened it up and look what we finds!!!

    15 slot processors
    7 gold caps
    1 gold eprom
    24 fiber and metal tops
    1 apple processor
    6 black fiber
    10 green fiber
    24 486/386 ceramics
    4 AMD metal/ceramics
    19 pentium ceramics

Thank god you found it. I have been looking for it forever. I of course will repay you the $20. I was just the first one, you know the rest of you want it. You know from now on no matter what she buys she'll remind you of this day. Congrats, Mike.

Yeah thats pretty awesome. Just at the worst price per pound for those procs she tripled your money. And the worst price is a far cry from those gold tops. I would be interested to see each type weighed out and how much they come out to be.

She did good. Pick out one of the biggest gold tops and make a bling ring out of it for her.

If you ever had enough processors, etc you could always get one of the guys on GRF to refine it for you, then get a jeweller to make a ring out of the recovered gold. A nice idea, but you would need to save those processors up!
I know lying is wrong, but if the elephant man came in now in a blouse with some make up on, and said, "How do I look?" Would you say, bearing in mind he's depressed and has respiratory problems, would you say, "Go and take that blusher off you mis-shapened elephant tranny?" No. You'd say, "You look nice... John""

Thortek, I used to agree, however you will find that the gold caps give a better return per processor. For example, A 486 ceramic weighs 3/4oz and brings roughly 8.00 per. I found a pentium double sided gold (not pentium pro) the other day that weighed in at 2 1/4oz. That one alone will bring around 14.00.

Pound for pound, you cannot beat a 486, but keep the above in the back of your mind.

Yes i will also take 15 pentium pro computers over 15 486 processor computers any day.

    15 pentium pro's = 3 pounds = $300

    15 486's = 1 pound = $133

There is no way theres $400 there. Even if it were all ceramic that would be 7 pounds at $40 per pound or $280. And you dont have enough gold tops to offset the slot and copper heatsink cpus. Id say your looking at $250 max. But thats atill a nice return on 20 bucks. congrats
