Don't chew on them.

The only thing I try to be careful about is the dust (asthma).

Some of those cases I crack open are unbelievable.

A few of them I've wondered as to how they just didn't spontaneously combust and burn the house down from all the crud.

Some of the dirtiest computers come from some of the cleanest offices. Make any sense? That's because they were placed on the floor (carpeted of course) and left running 24/7/365, and had a vacuum cleaner ran all around them every night for years, leaving them to suck in all the dust stirred up by the vac. If you must put your tower under the desk, on the floor, at least put a board, a brick, anything to raise it up a bit from the carpet.

On the same note, how many IT techs show up at work in full EPA garb? Ripping into a computer from one end to the other, replacing motherboards, net cards, CPUs, memory, power supplies, etc after etc. Maybe the ones at NASA had a space suit placed conveniently nearby, that they could slip in to after morning coffee, donuts, and mars bars

I get very good prices on gloves and other safety equipment from http://www.northernsafety.com/ in Utica NY.
they have thousands of different kinds of gloves, and sizes. Way better deal than buying them from a big box store.

Heatsink paste, you know, the white stuff under CPU's & transistors, can have Beryllium oxide, same with microwave magnetron if you smash the ceramic on the ends.

That & PCB's in capacitors, if it says, '"NO PCB's, then theres no PCB's. If it dosn't, there is......

Know what you mean - mine are often covered in mold and the components have years of dust on them. Cough, cough. Wonder if that dirt has something to do with why they don't work anymore. Maybe someone could invent a dust filter for pcs and make a million or two (don't forget to cut me in!)

I did read somewhere that motherboards used to contain a very toxic element that I don't think they have anymore - but can't remember what it was or where I read it.
