    Strange RAM

I found this stick of ram today when tearing down a old dell p3 tower. It had a very thin aluminum casing over the top of it. A bit like rambus but it was alot thinner and more flexible then other rambus that i have run across. All the little chip looking thinks are a shiny irredesent pieces. THis is def a first for me. Any input?

The cover you found was probably a heatsink. Most performance RAM gets very hot as with all computer components, and it help a lot to cool it. If we are talking about the same thing. Here's a picture of one.

It must have came out of an old Dell P3 server. 9 chips per bank, 8 ram one parity.

I had a few of those chips I just sent out in my 28 pounds of memory to ewasted. The aluminum casing acts as a heat sink helping the memory to run cooler. I love the way those chips look like an iridescent glass versus the traditional black flatpacks. It could be used in any P3 or early P4. The 2 notch placement means it's either PC-100 or PC-133 speed.

Found these today in a p3 computer. put the normal ram in there for reference. A half pound of ram in one tower.

Was it a server? It looks similar to ram I have found in p3 servers. Mike
