    does breaking the hard drives affect the scrap value?

    Like my titles says does it affect the scrap value if i break the hard drive disk?

    ... and sell the boards separate to another ewaste recycler - HD boards are around $10-$11/lb. But like the others said, it doesn't decrease the value. Most of us need to do some sort of breaking/destruction of the drive to assure non-recovery of data.

    Anything we do that breaks the drive is nothing compared to what's going to happen it.

    Yeah exactly what i mean there could be credit card numbers on that drive and could lead to identity theft.

    run the disks thru a heavy duty paper shredder. Then you can sell the pieces by the shoebox full.
