Yay I did it...1st lcd monito repair

Yay I did it. This is my 2nd attempt at a lcd repair. But the first successful one. The first one I think I damaged the board or possible bad transistors. Thinking of ordering a power supply board off of ebay for 20 bucks. But the second try successful. Sorry didnt take pics of the bad cap and solder job. But it worked. Had one bad cap I could see/feel.

I walked out to my scrap table and found the right cap from a tv board I shredded. Desoldered that, soldered it on here. Good to go. Sad thing Is I doubt I can resell this screen as there is a water spot or damage to the lcd when seen in bright colors. Still Im doing the happy dance. Next...got 4 more lol.

I got 2 LCD tvs to do that to just got to do it. I just hope it's the resistors.

Good job! Nice feeling bringing something back to life. A couple of my monitors are repaired by me and working strong.

I would suggest, if you are doing this, to bite the bullet and buy new caps for these monitors. Either ebay or digikey or any other electronics supplier will have them. Buy them in bulk... 20 or 30 of each size you would need (you can use larger voltage rating, but need to use the same capacitance rating)... Have them separated in parts bins. When I repair a power-board or a lcd driver board I will replace all the caps on that board with new ones... if one failed the others will probably follow... besides, when I see one I usually see several. Each cap will be .10 - .50 so replacing 10 of them would be $1 to $5 per monitor. The monitor is already open... the board is already out... the iron is already hot... I just do all the larger electrolytic caps when I do it.

You would hate to use all used components and have it fail on you again in 2 weeks... or worse yet, sell it and have it fail on your customer in 2 weeks.

The last LCD monitor I repaired just needed about $8 in parts (transistors) and some soldering. When they transitioned to non lead solder tons of electronics were made with bad solder joints that eventually gave out and they are easy to fix.
