    rotor pricing

Do any of you buy rotors/ auto parts from service stations? I was at a small independent shop. They currently have a buyer. They do however, want an offer per rotor. I know they don't all weigh the same. If anyone buys from service stations please tell me. I do not know what is a typical profit margin on something like this. I have an idea my yards price is .14 per lb. I'm thinking the current buyer may be around a 1$ per rotor. I want to try to squeeze inside of their profit margin.

I pay .25 a rotor. Just last week was told a buyer offered him $1 each. Average weight I use is 14lbs. Current #1 iron is $210/ton (as of two days ago) so it's approx .10/lb so average is $1.40 a rotor.

I told him "More power to him". My yard is about 30 miles away. Not worth the effort. More profit in electronic scrap and copper. Today, I quit buying iron all together. Like I told a caller today "I'll take it but I'll charge you to come and get it"
People may laugh at me, but that's ok. I laugh all the way to the bank.

Wow!!! Everybody is crying about the prices droping and your getting 280.00 per ton for steel, even 210.00 per ton that Mick is getting is good. One yard by me that I know about droped to 180.00 per ton.

Shred and heavy melt is down to. 170 ton. Rotors and engines are priced seperate by me. Those are holding at 280. Everything else is sinking like a guy wearing cement shoes getting thrown off a boat in the middle of lake Michigan. Hence my reason for seeking rotors... Hopes this makes sense.

I'm never ever buy anything per item less I can sell it that way, like car batteries, always by the ton. Why pay $1 for rotor off a car that weighs 5# ? Don't get burned that way, lighter rotors less money for them and you maintain your margin

I tried rotors for a while. Free is good, pay per rotor cuts profit big time. I had stations tell me I needed to give them $1.50 per rotor. No way. Not worth the wear and tear on your truck and the gas to haul them. Not to mention the rust and dust you are inhaling.

I currently pay 1.25 per rotor and get 13.50 per 100 so I average around 2.00 arotor in return for the work so id have to agree with the last guy I use to pay .25 cent when scrap was way lower. Also pay 10 bucks on batterys 14 on aluminum rims and the highest in my state on cats.
