Day 2 Call 2 from postcard mailing

So far so good. Second call was from a lady who got a postcard yesterday. She asked if I buy pontoon boats. Knowing these are mostly made up of aluminum, I thought that it would be an interesting experiment and maybe worth a small upfront investment. I set up a time and met her at her home. We worked out the particulars and $150 later we came to an agreement. The boat is comlete with trailer and engine as well. She stated that her husband could not get the boat to run and it has been sitting 2+ years. Heres a quick pic I shot on scene. Ill take more after the removal. The boat is approximately 20 ft in length.

I have to be honest, I have no idea what to do with it. My thoughts were to tear it down and scrap it honestly. I might try Craigslist first though. I do not know the first thing about boats but I do live in a big lake community so there are plenty of marinas around.

Maybe I missed it, but could you tell us more about the post cards. That sounds like a good idea, how many did you send out and how much did it cost? It looks like it payed for it self with just the boat. Keep up the good work.

Yeah I just read the thread about the every door mailing, I have been so busy I would hate to see what would happen if I tried something like that right now.

You would need to get some more happyscrapers out there!!!

I would so take that boat to a local dealer and see what they would offer you for it before scrapping it. A pontoon trailer would be worth at least $500 I would think.

Its worth at least at least 1000 as is in mn..that is a great score..i think u said you were from ny..in the land of 10000 lakes everyone has a pontoon..try selling it as is..ppl must have been braindead to not think of buying a new motor..again great score n plz dont scrap it..

Thanks Rusty! I will definately look into resale then. Ill try craigslist maybe even ebay for a few days. So I can safely assume it is worth more than scrap as is. Thanks for the info folks!

Ok. Got the boat home and cleaned it out a bit. Ower said the boat ran just fine 2 years ago when he parked it. Boat is a 1980 Harris, 24 footer with a Mercury 100 outboard. The interior needs some work and alot of cleaning. Ower supplied the regstration and signed it over. The trailer tires have some dry rotting and would need to be replaced. Going to try to sell it for more than scrap value as suggested from the board. Heres some pics:

Got a couple calls already tonight. One guy wants to possibly barter a snap on MIG welder mm140sl. I know nothing about mig welders, but always thought about having one around for repairs and projects. What do you guys think?

Yeah if it works and you need it cant go wrong there. On the plus side the welder will fit nicely in the corner of the shop or garage

Boat sold today, $1,200 cash. Thanks for all of the input. I was ready to break out the sawsall and start chopping. I am a little curious as to what it would have scrapped out for though. I estimated al least 500-600 lbs aluminum for the boat itself, not including the trailer which is steel and the motor which from what I understand is aluminum/cast/steel. Maybe next time.
