I watched a competitor throw away a lot of scrap today!

So I go to the dump to unload the stuff from a cleanout today, and a truck for a national franchise junk removal company pulls up next to me. Don't want to spill the beans here but the company name rhymes with 1(800)JOT-GUNK. ;-)

Anyway, as they begun to dump I hear metal clanging around. The friggin' morons dumped an ENTIRE load of metal at the landfill and PAID to dispose of it! A few things in the pile: romex, #2 insulated, copper tubing (I could have cried!) lawn mower, aluminum ladders, two appliances, a steel fire pit, a bike and a go kart with the motor.

Unfortunately the dump frowns upon scavenging or I would have completely refilled the truck I just emptied!

I have seen them do this on many occassions, but you know what, I just smile because that is why most people call me!

You might send them the video and ask them if that's their company policy.

I just wanna know what I'd do to get them to drop off to me!!!

Actually, this is very good for me. Many of my customers are big on recycling. Of course they ALREADY like me better because I'm less expensive than these guys.

That's because the business is all franchise, isn't it, might do well to sent the tape and a printout of what I just read to corporate. They just might get their franchise pulled, especially if a newspaper got involved.

i wouldnt push it on them to scrap more... as a franchise with corporate backing, they may be able to outbid or advertize better and take all your local scrap.

let them stay blind. and do what you can to undercut them with customers.

It is a corporate thing, trust me. All of them around here do the same **** thing.

They just say that so people see them as eco friendly, and they are NOT.

Sending it in to corporate, I guarantee wont do anything.

What if you could befriend the franchise or drivers and say you will take their metal items free of charge. just drop them here (if you have a location) or load my truck? doubtful if it works though...to much logistics involved.

If I'm reading it right the thread did not say that the co. was 1-800 got-junk, he said it rhymes with 1-800-got-junk.
