Hmmm, I never magnet tested the center of the wire, I had no idea it wasn't pure copper.. Now I know. Thanks for the education on that KZ!
I'm so into scrapping.. When my Steel Toe Boots Wear out, I cut the Steel out of them and recycle the Toe!

Darn near every yard I've ever been too has a sign specifically dedicated to "NO COAX" I think it is because they get so much steel fiber and insulation.. and such a low amount of copper yield out of it.. they don't deal with it. May also be because it is easy for theives to steal possibly??

Nice Overview hobo finds! Thanks for Posting!
My yard lets me mix it in with the 35% as long as it's not magnetic. If it is they let it go as shread.

The braided wire thats around the inner plastic layer,(that contains the copper coated steel wire) is normally tinned Copper, filled with a **** sticky jelly of some sort.
Buy(sic) the time I got to the copper, I'd made a real mess of the area I was working in & got a small fist sized ball of sticky tinned Copper braid that dissapeared into the amount of Copper wire I had at the time.
So the other two leftover reels are still sitting there untill I need the actual wooden reel for something.....

I only get .12lb for it mixed but it adds up fast and easy to set aside for a pack of smokes lol

after Hurricane Sandy we had piles of this stuff laying around. Some of it very tough to tell if steel inside, touching a magnet to it isn't always definitive. Learned a trick from a guy at a yard. Grab near the end of the coax, and move the magnet toward it. If the coax moves, it's NG.

Now if it's CB radio or Ham coax you will be dealing with copper over copper, some of the 213 can be $1.00 foot new.
I'd be willing to buy some from you. However, I'd only pay 10-cents/pound, and you'd have to arrange shipping!![]()
Seriously, I don't think there's any way to make much off of this stuff.
The cores (of most of them I've seen, at least) are copper-plated steel, but the surrounding wire may be worth a bit more (ie, copper).
Thanks for your time.
