That's some tough luck Matt, sorry to hear it. You'll get through it though, and as was stated, it could have been so much worse. Mistakes are a fact of life, and most times are a big part of growing up. Pick yourself up, dust yourself off, and learn from it. Never drink and drive, I speak from experience myself, once I've had a drink, I am home for the night.

I had one DUI, April 15,1999 never again, I have not had a drink sense. We all make mistakes, just learn from it and don't do it again because the next time will be much worse. I had to ride a bicycle 10 miles one way to work every day for 6 months and I don't ever want to do that again.
Learning from your mistakes = Wisdom.
Also. The only way you could have possibly gotten away with that is to have immediately left the truck in the ditch, then called and reported your vehicle stolen. However, had the cops checked the closest store and questioned the clerk you could have still gotten caught. I personally think you did the right thing, even if you didn't mean to. Here in SC, your first DUI will get your DL revoked for one year!!! Not to mention the $500 - $5,000 worth of fines and raised insurance. Most of the time with a DUI you have to go purchase SR22 Insurance which is double and some times triple the cost.

Hate this happened. Always remember you have a right to refuse to take a field test without a lawyer present. Hope there's not a next time but at least you did not get hurt.

Not true depending upon where you are. In Austin, Texas, certain weekends are considered "no refusal" weekends. If you don't want to do a field sobriety test, they will require a breath test or blood sample. If you refuse that - the cops immediately get a blood search warrant and take your blood - no lawyer need be present. San Antonio has passed laws making every day a "no refusal" day.
You don't like it? Don't drink and drive.

Hey Matt hopefully it's an eye opener. We all have made bad decisions in the past. You did the right thing by staying at the scene and not making an already bad situation worse. Don't know about p.a. But to refuse a breathalyzer here is an automatic 6 months suspension of your license.
Best of luck to you.
