I USED too. I used to only deal in Aluminum, Brass and Copper.. Now I do it all.
I'm so into scrapping.. When my Steel Toe Boots Wear out, I cut the Steel out of them and recycle the Toe!

i would LOVE to get into escrapping but here in South Africa theres hardly anyone buying from the public
as a result, the big guys have huge skips & containers at the big dept stores where the conveniently ask the public to come dump their ewaste "for free".
what i end up doing is selling my ewaste to the scrapyard where i just get paid shred/sub grade rate for it.
its quite sad- as i know i would have made much, much more from ewaste if i was living in the US like most of u guys.
i went to have a look at one ewaste container at a Sams Club like wholesale store in Durban called Makro- i felt like jumping into it & taking the degaussing cables from the monitors.
quite sad.

Though I am new to scrapping my interest leans towards appliances or anything that has a power cord. But right now I will take anything except vehicles.

Clearly, a wire stripper is something I simply can not continue without. If even half the weight of insulated wire I've taken in was copper, I've cost myself about $1000 this year alone by not stripping it. That absolutely can't continue.

In that case I would imagine that the first good load of stripped copper (after buying stripper) would more than pay for it.

Funny you say that about a stripper, I have been on ebay for the past half hour looking for a stripper. Good thing about appliances they all have electric motors and wiring as well as other recyclable items.

That is quite a list auminer and you monitor your production pretty good. Do you use a computer program to keep track of these numbers.

The question was "do you specialize in one area" Yes, we specialize in E-waste but we will scrap anything we can make a buck on. We have literally outfitted our warehouse with desks, chairs, work table, carts, bins, shelves and storage cabinets and even some tools that we got while making a pick-up of something completely different. Specializing just makes you a little more knowledgeable in one area, but volume pays the bills, so if it doesn't move on its own or breathe, its fair game for us.

Someone over there has to be buying. Search them out. Bigger loads bring better money. If you can find a buyer then you can deliver it further.
If your picking them up for free then you can afford to set on them for awhile. The parts don't take up a lot of room.
