I am going to try Planet Green next time I have enough to send in. Funny eCycle must check those expensive cartridges real well! How many low value ones were rejected?

    Office Max

Printer Ink Cartridges & Toner: Inkjet Cartridges, Laser Printer Toner Cartridges & More at OfficeMax
MAXPERKS INK AND TONER RECYCLING REWARDS
MaxPerks Rewards Members get $2 back in Recycling Rewards for each ink/toner cartridge recycled in-store, up to 10 cartridges per member, per month. Remanufactured ink/toner cartridges are not eligible for rewards under the Recycling Rewards program. Recycling Rewards are calculated monthly, earned and issued in $2 increments, and posted to your MaxPerks account in the form of a Reward Card, by the end of the following month, along with any other rewards earned that month.
Recycling Reward dollars issued may not exceed your qualified purchase balance. For example, if you bring in 10 cartridges throughout Month 1 and make $14 in qualified purchases, your Month 1 Recycling Rewards will be $20 but only $14 in rewards will be issued to you. The remaining $6 will be held in your account in a “pending” status until you make at least $6 in qualified purchases in subsequent months or until January 1 of the following year, when the account balance is reset to $0.
Recycling Rewards can be used online, in-store or over the phone. While there is no limit to the number or brand of ink/toner cartridges you may recycle, you will only receive credit for the visibly undamaged qualifying cartridges identified above and in the limits identified above. Customers can sign up for MaxPerks at time of recycling drop off to participate.
The Recycling Rewards program is not open to customers that broker or re-sell ink and/or toner cartridges and any discounts eligible for those activities may be forfeited and the MaxPerks account closed.
In select markets, Members may receive an instant discount in-store, in lieu of a Recycling Reward for recycling ink/toner cartridges at OfficeMax stores. See store for details.

This $30 minimum purchase requirement does not include taxes or shipping charges paid, and is based on amount paid after any coupons. Ink Recycling Rewards are issued online monthly, separately from your other benefits. Limit one Staples Rewards account per person or at any mailing address. Additional accounts will be cancelled.

    Examples:
Recycle 5 cartridges (Potential Recycling Rewards = $10). You'll only get
$10 in Recycling Rewards if you spend $10 on qualifying purchases in the same Reward Period in which the cartridges are recycled

do any of these places take toner and ink cartridges if the ink and toner are still in them?

I get plenty of ink and toner that are brand new or used, but not empty.

All the ones I send in are out of printers I get from a thrift store. They don't sell computer peripherals, but people want to "donate" their outdated stuff all the time, so they just take it.

I would assume that most or all of the ones I send in still have some ink in them. I don't guess it matters.

Aww dang! I totally meant to report back after I sent my shipment to eCycle group. As you may have guessed, they tried to rip me off as well. I sent what should have been almost $200 in cartridges (yes, I calculated with their price list and only sent accepted units) but was paid only $58. Upon inspection of the invoice, I noticed that the 30, yes, THIRTY HP #22 cartridges somehow DISAPPEARED from my shipment. At $4 each, that was $120 that vanished into thin air. I called and left a very concerning message. The next day, the lady called me back and said she would credit my account for 30 HP #22's. Not 5 minutes after this, she sends the email:

    Hi Jeremy,

After I ended my phone conversation with you, I realized the credit would be over $100.00. I don’t have authorization to credit your account that amount without my Supervisors approval. She requested I put in a ticket with our Inventory Specialist to see if she can locate the HP 22 in her inventory report. I need to wait until this investigation is complete before I can credit your account.

Please contact me if you have any questions regarding this email, I’m happy to help you.

Thank you, I’ll be in touch soon.

    Have a nice day!
Two weeks later, hearing nothing, I email back asking if they were able to locate them. She said that they were never found but ended up crediting my account for $120 after all.

Bottom line: Crooked company, but decent customer service?
Yeah that's great and all...but...CAN I SCRAP IT!?

@Hobo...if you send off anything soon, to one of the other companies, let us know ASAP how it goes.

Right at the end of the school year, I was "attempting" to setup boxes for staff, students, etc in some of the schools, to just drop their used ink/toner off as a convenience.
In June, I sent 3 boxes, weighing about 150lbs to Erie, PA. These were boxes and labels that were provided by ROK! I am "assuming" that they were to get a portion of anything that I turned in, so I thought we were also benefiting another forum member, in the process.

Here is the disappointing breakdown. There were `178 pieces, 31 were deemed good, the rest were either not usable or not on the list. The total payout...$15.36

    HELLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Now, I did NOT inventory every single item. Again, just trying to provide a service to schools that do not want, or have, a recycling program for ink/toner, and to responsibly get rid of all of the buckets that accumulate here breaking things down, is the objective. BUT...there has to be a little better return, for all the time we put into this, than 15.36!

Sooooooo I do not see myself sending them anything else, ESPECIALLY, after reading the reports from others here!

Looking forward to hearing from someone who has a good alternative.

Reminds me of that cash for gold thread I saw on here at one point. Where they'd send you a small check, but if you called an complained an basically showed them you knew what was what, they'd up the check amount.

Hence why I don't deal with these kind of places without numerous good review from folks I know, or who's opinion I trust. If ya'll told me of a good company, I'd try it, but I wouldn't put any faith in an anonymous internet review. To easy to fake stuff like Yelp, Trip Adviser, etc.

THIS COMPANY ECYCLE GROUP(the check says Recycling Center)IS DEFINITELY A SCAM! Every cartridge was inventoried and inspected before being sent out, they were all in good condition except for 1 that's ONE cartridge. I was supposed to receive $64 instead I got $38.50. I will definitely be calling the company tomorrow....The weird thing is I didn't even get a breakdown of what I had sent in, just a check.

If it's any consolation the company I linked above (Advantage) is a brick and mortar store and not just an anonymous address.
I went by it last week when I went to the VA Clinic. Didn't have anything with me to drop off tho, maybe next time.

You can login to your account & get the breakdown/inventory. I'd be interested in seeing a screenshot if you don't mind. Curious if a disproportionate # of your higher value cartridges got rejected as per this company's apparent M.O.

That is, if you can #^$%ing log in to their $^%#ing wabsite. I keep getting an error message when I try & log in to provide a screenshot of my last order.

Mec, if you happen to stop in there, give us the first hand scoop on what you think. I am still in need of another company to deal with, hopefully before, schools start back next month.

Would highly value your personal opinion, if you have the chance, to really check them out!

So I just called ecycle group. It was not a large # of high value cartridges but instead a ton of them had visibly damaged print heads. I asked the lady how she could teach me to recognize damaged print heads so that I could send in only good ones and receive 100% and she told me to google pictures! HAHAH....I also had 2 brand new cartridges that were on the list but I didn't notate which ones they were and they didn't pay me for them at all so she said if I can figure that out she will give me credit..

So I took some time to figure out what 2 new cartridges were not paid for but I could only find 1. Called back and Amanda misunderstood me thought I had found both, I corrected her and she still gave me credit for 2 new cartridges so that was $8 credited to my account.

Sent them three dual core XP laptops - took out the memory, hard drive, and didn't have to send AC adapter - as long as they booted to BIOS and were working got $30 for each of them. Processing took about a month and then they cut a check. I'm going to put together a load of cartridges next and see how it goes.

At the risk of sounding like I'm talking outta both sides of my mouth here, there DOES seem to be alot of posts here complaining about things as dishonest when they're actually misunderstandings. When you see that someone was only paid for 17 out of 99 cartridges, that looks really, really bad & evil. But most likely 70-something of those cartridges weren't on that company's buy list... they don't just buy any & all cartridges, ya know.

I'm all for calling them out on mysteriously rejecting a high percentage of high-value cartridges, but let's make sure we're not calling them out as dishonest on something that's clearly stated on their website.

Besides... I have absolutely no reason to ever buy ink again. Or paper. Or another printer, for that matter. I get so many working printers with ink (and often paper) that I could LITERALLY just use them til they run out of ink, toss them in my recycle stream & go out to the garage & get another one. As it is, I kinda like the (scrap found) printer I have now, & I have 4 or 5 spare cartridges for it. So, Staples/Office Depot/Office Max/et al (all of whom make you buy ink from them to get in on their recycling programs) aren't really an appealing recycling-for-profit option to me. Even with getting shorted on high-value inks, and how much that irks me, the mail-out option still works out better for me in the long run. I'ma probably try this advantage recycling place next, when I get enough to mess with boxing up another shipment.
