I enjoy the staples rewards as well. What I do is check and see if the ink cartridges are on the price list on Ecycle Group website and if they are not on the list I take them to staple. Now I have about 100 ink cartridge I can take to staple so, I get the 10 cartridges per month at staple plus the ones that qualify on Ecycle Group. So, its a win win.

I have also tried Ecycle Group. The first shipment I was expecting to earn about $50 but, ended up earning only $13.50. I made sure that all of the cartridges were on the price list and when I got the breakdown there were a lot of cartridges that I sent that weren't on the list. I breakdown seemed incorrect but, I didn't record exactly the cartridges that I sent so, I had no proof. Here is the breakdown for the first shipment:

I needed at least $20 of credit in order to get a check so, I sent a second package but, this time I included a detailed breakdown of all the cartridges I was sending with the corresponding prices on their price list and a total expected cartridge value. Their response was very different, they paid me what I was expecting (more or less) and on their website the breakdown on my account was very detailed. Instead of one page there was three pages of detailed breakdown info. After the second shipment they sent the check promptly, I think it arrived the following week. Here is the breakdown from the second shipment on the Ecycle website:

So, from now on I am going to summit a cover letter explaining how much I plan on earning from the cartridges and also include a detailed breakdown. That way they know that I know the prices and what I am supposed to get paid. I would suggest this to people who are trying out a new cartridge company or would like to consistently be paid the proper amount. A little more work but, has positive results. Here is the sheet that I sent in the second shipment:

Perhaps this info and photos will help others to make a decision on a cartridge buyer.
I think Its pathetic that you must print out an excell sheet and tell someone what they should be getting paid in order to keep from getting ripped off. I would rather give all my ink cartridges away for free to their compeitors.

Interesting, I wonder if their program varies from state to state now because I just redeemed all my Staples ink rewards for laundry detergent, paper towels, and toilet paper (things I hate to drop real money on...)

I agree with you that we should not have to follow up or write out a spread sheet to show that we know how much we are supposed to get paid. But, if you follow this thread it talks about how there is not a reputable ink recycling company that everyone seems to trust. Some have mentioned other companies but, there doesnt seem to be one that everyone trusts or that sticks out. So for now I'll be sending them to Ecycle Group with a cover letter.

It is up to you if want to give your cartridges to ecycle groups competitors for free but, honestly I doubt you will go through that hassle. And which competitors? How do you know they are honest buyers? If they are honest buyers give us the names and we will try them out.

I found another buyer that I dont think has been mentioned yet. They take ink but, unfortunately they dont take toner. I already made an account and I am going to try them out and let you guys know how it goes. The thing I liked about them is you select on your online account all of the cartridges that you are going to send, then they send you the shipping material, and then you ship it. This way they know what you are sending and it makes them more accountable as well. They wont be able to change your order like so many have complained about with Ecycle. Another thing I liked is they seem to take more types of cartridges then the other companies. They even take many Epson cartridges(only .05 each but, still I think thats cool).

The only other drawback is that they dont pay as good as ecycle but, if they are honest it will be worth it plus they buy more variety. I still need to save up some more to send in but, like I said earlier I will let you know how it goes.

    Here is their website:

Saw a story the other day that staples is now paying for cartridges to be shipped and recycled for $2 each, I saw no mention of maximum amounts if I see or get any more info I'll let you all know.

I just checked their website. It's $2 in Staples Rewards, maximum of $10 per month, must have spent $30 in ink purchases at Staples in last 180 days. Plus, there is a nice disclaimer at the bottom of the page. Staples Rewards Ink and Toner Recycle Program| Staples.com®

I know a lot of people bring up that Staples recycles cartridges but, I just want to make it clear that I do turn in my 10 cartridges per month at staples. Instead of just doing ten per month with staples I pick out the ones that are on the price list and sellable to other buyers and the ones that are not on the list I recycle at staples. This might not work with people that dont get many cartridges so, if you are struggling to get the 10 per month I would suggest to just recycle at staples. But, if you are like me and have 100 plus cartridges, I would recommend to sell to other buyers and the ones that arent listed give to staples.

If staple didnt have a limit on how many cartridges you can recycle I would recycle all of my cartridges there but, they have a limit so I just do 10 per month.

Is this making sense to all my fellow scrappers?

It seems others had good luck with Advantage Recycling. Last month I put together a box of 43 clean empties and an inventory that itemized out at $47.25. According to their website, they have just issued me a check for $17.40.

    I guess I won't retire just yet.

You need to contact them and see if they will adjust price. Post what they reply... There has to be a better way to do these!

I just got their itemized list in the mail this afternoon. Apparently all the HP78s were damaged - sent 8 for an expected return of $18 on those. Although I did not send obviously damaged cartridges, I would not be surprised about damage. I had tossed the cartridges into a box without much care, originally expecting Staples to continue their program. These were carefully cleaned and packed for shipment, so any damage was prior to shipping.

I am now leaving the cartridges in the plastic slots when I tear down a printer. I will remove them just prior to shipping to see if the acceptance rate is higher.
