Anyone ever used a collection agency?

I have a small amount of money owed to me and now I'd rather cause the entity a hassle than have the money,in the end both would be nice. How hard do collections work for small sums? Do they buy it for $.10 on the dollar, or take a percentage? How do you bigger scrapers/yards deal with your past due accounts receivable and how long do you wait to write it off as bad debt or send it to collections, or is there no accounts receivable for you?

    Thanks!

Way back when we had a video store, all of our collections went to a service and they got 50 % of whatever they collected. Don't know how it is now, probably not any cheaper. And if they took anyone to court then their rep. would go.
