    Trademark

Was running some trademark searches and seen that people had actually filed for trademarks on the word ewaste but none have been approved. Is this even possible being it isn't a name or slogan? Don't know a whole lot about trademark but figured some of you would know more.

Not possible as a trademark is used to identify something specific to one company or entity. "ewaste" used by itself is a generic term used to identify a general product. Even trying to trademark something like "ewaste" is ridiculous.
People may laugh at me, but that's ok. I laugh all the way to the bank.

Although you could certainly trademark a company name that contained the word ewaste.

Thats exactly what I was thinking with it being a general term. When I seen the trademark attempts I didn't know what to think. About like trying to trademark the word metal

I'd add registering it before using it. If you think it's good enough. Even an application will establish an official date of conception/use

Yes this is also important but there are also other ways to go about it.

"Scrap Man Do", is one of the better ones I've seen around the forum somewhere.

My bank recently called to tell me in order for them to recognize my company name it needed to be changed...I told them the State of Colorado recognizes it just fine and I will be in to close all of my accounts. They called back 10 minutes later and said never mind.

Did they give you any specific reason as to why they could not "recognize" it?

If the state of Colorado recognizes it just fine, should not be an issue. Especially if they have a copy of your incorporation papers, business license, etc.

ya, someone has ecycle atlanta.com reserved but not using it, so i went with the .net. I'm not really using it except to have a web presence for now, but as my business grows i will need it more. I do suggest getting one that covers your area or with whatever name you want to use. The cost is minimal and protects your name if you plan on growing your business in the future.

Hey Shen, find out when the dot com expires (you can look it up) and mark the date on your calendar. The day after it expires try to buy it. ,often people not using website names they have "parked" forget to renew. If they're asleep at the switch you can get the name.

OTOH if they renew they may entertain an offer to sell at a reasonable price.

be careful which ones, and how you search. Some places actively search for names to register, in hopes they can then sell it back to ya.
.com will get more traffic than a .net

When doing any business structure setup, I would not recommend doing it yourself. Too much of a headache, and it looks bad. If you are really passionate about your business, have it all done by the pros. I had "legal closeup" setup my structure and they do all the searching and checking so you can worry about business. All in all, it was about a week before I could legally use my business name.

    Just my 2 cents worth.
