Is there any place that buys car computers?
Try to find a core buyer in your area. I don't know where you live but if you live in or neer a major town or city you sould have a core buyer neer you. Auto computers are like cats. and can have a high value depending on make and modle.
Im looking for computer buyer too in raleigh nc
"If it makes dollars, then it makes sense!"
We buy them as midgrade when they are pulled from the case and the AL or plastic plugs are broke off.
Hope this helps,
Thanks!
for how much?
I have not found a core buyer that buys them.. and I have my pick of them where I live. Sadly, they just go in as Sheet Aluminum.. unless they can be sold off a vehicle that someone really wants and can have it re-programmed. I still have one off a Blazer sitting.. and has for months with no luck on CL.. it may soon suffer the same fate as all the rest I have pulled and hoped they would sell.
I'm so into scrapping.. When my Steel Toe Boots Wear out, I cut the Steel out of them and recycle the Toe!
Not a bad price for the boards for something I see laying in the mud at the junkyards.

I buy ECMs and BCMs, but most other core buyers in my area don't mess with them. Unfortunately, there are many, many numbers that are junk and many others that are only worth a buck or two. The good numbers can make it well worth the trouble, it's just a matter of finding them.
The list of ECM/BCM numbers is literally hundreds of pages. I always ask my sellers to email me a list of what they have by make and OEM number, then I can find out which ones are good and what they're worth.
I can offer a few hints that might help. Some ECMs that you would think are junk are actually pretty good. Many numbers of the older OBD1 Fords are good, but most of the newer OBD2 ones are junk. Newer Chryslers have a fair amount of decent ones. GMs are hit-and-miss, and GM BCMs are often better than the ECM from the same vehicle. Most common imports (Toyota, VW, Nissan, etc.) are no good, there's very little demand for them. There are some exceptions to this, of course, but good core import ECMs are pretty scarce in my experience.
The best thing to do is to have them all checked by a buyer that deals with them. I hope this helps some.
Sparrow-
It does help... yes thank you. Seems to be a very hit miss market.. probably why I've had a near impossible time finding a buyer.. which is a shame.. if one looks up any ECM/ECU for any vehicle on Ebay.. you will see one for every make and model that will be sold re-programmed to your vehicle.. someone out there is buying them and making a killing.. I just want my little slice too!
I hear that sparrow lol. When i find out who buys them I'll b sure to post...u likewise

+1 of what John Said!
Just got a lead on a large quantity of car computers. Seeing as this OP is old, was wondering if any new info is out there regarding buyers, prices, etc.?
Except for the few my local Buyer takes ( RAS in RI)
they go with the car for .09 a pound or if I have pulled them they go in the dirty aluminum pile
I was hoping a local eScrape person might have some interest but never found one
If there is one out there that would be interested >> I am located in SE MA towards the Cape
I do an average of 4 or 5 cars a week
Always looking to increase profits
There are pleanty of national core buyers with free software or online services, when I was buying cars I would just enter in the car info and pull the parts that were worth the time to pull. I stopped because I dident have the volume to make it worth it. I never had a computer worth pulling. Im very rural so I don't have any local options, other than selling by weight for starters and alternator.

I have sold to these guys before. Crites Core Company, Inc.. It was way back in 2004, but sold 7 ECM's from some Mitsubishi's and got 270.00!!! I worked in the service dept and they were all bad, but rebuildable according to crites. Another place I have used in the past back at that time was ECMtogo.com
