    Keep (your city) Beautiful

I talked to my local "clean city" office to see if they could add my business to their list of recyclers (there were zero electronics and the last charged to take electronics). She said they would and a couple weeks later their newsletter was mailed out. Within a week I got a call that someone wanted to bring down some stuff. I hope to be getting many more calls.

I live in a town of less then 13000 and maybe 17000 in the county; so you can guess how few people got that newsletter.

I thought I would share that small win with you people, to let you know of another possible source of leads

What is a "clean city" office?

By newsletter do you mean something in the local newspaper or actual newsletter just a sheet of paper that gets mailed out monthly, and quarterly?

About your business how professional are you?

Do you have business cards, flyers or other forms of advertising besides what is listed above, and do you give a description of what you do?

I hope my questions make sense and aren't to vague and apologize in advance.

I say "clean city" office because Years ago it was called "Beatrice Clean City" then they joined the "Keep America Beautiful" movement. They run the "adopt a road" litter pickup and other events promoting things to help keep the city looking "clean".

I was referencing a mailed paper; although they also put ads in the newspaper as well.

I run a "real" business. I do handyman and lawn care work ("We do what you don't have time for"). I also have a storefront / workshop downtown.

I put out flyers, hand out business cards, put ads on craigs list and freecycle, facebook, Google+, Google maps/places, and whatever else I think of to get my business out in the public.

It may help agencies and businesses feel more comfortable working with you if you work as a "business" and not as a "person". You have 2 main choices - DBA (Doing Business As) under your SSN, or get an EIN (Employer Identification Number). Either way to be legal you need to keep records of your income ("job" or scrapping). If you are a "business" you can also write off expenses (maybe even some gas, rent and utilities) on your taxes.

If your handing ewaste you better be careful. If its not handled and stored properly the epa will get on you quick. just throwing my pair of cents out there before somone turns you in for not having the proper paperwork / certifications in place. Even having a few boards sitting outside in the open is enough to get reported.

Cell phone coatings are often made of lead, meaning that if these 500 million cell phones are disposed of in landfills, it will result in 312,000 pounds of lead released. However, possibly the most hazardous component of the cell phone is the battery.

Cell phone batteries were originally composed of nickel and cadmium (Ni-Cd batteries). Cadmium is listed as a human carcinogen that causes lung and liver damage. Alternatives contain potentially explosive lithium or toxic lead.
Lead is present in CRT computer monitors. Also, there are other toxic elements that you should be aware of when you’re recycling that PC or Mac. Many laptops have a small fluorescent lamp in the screen that contains mercury, a toxic material when inhaled or digested.

Mercury is also found in computer circuit boards, along with lead and cadmium. Circuit boards can also include batteries made of mercury, as well as mercury switches.
    Just some of the hazards.
