Unless you want to be arrested for theft, don't take anything off any property, until you get written permission from the rightful owner(s). You can usually get contact info from a county office, such as a courthouse.

If asking the closet neighbor who owns it does not work. You can go to the county property tax records. If they are online its easy if not a 5 min trip to the records office will do it. Once you have the owners name use search engines to track them down. If you cant get that person call people with the same last name. Ask if they are related and how to get in touch with them. Always mention you have cash and want to buy.

If the local tax collector is close go ask them ho owns.

Up here I did a Google earth pic scan of my house and it came up with my name and address, might be an option.

    Now that's just spooky.

But to the OP... when I wanted to see who owned the field where there were some steel fence panels sitting for almost a month, I went to google & searched for Collin County Texas Tax Assessor, and then Collin County Texas Appraisal District. One of those two searches using your own State & county should get you to their website where, hopefully, you can look up the property in question on a map, and it'll tell you who owns it. Unless the name is John Smith or something, that oughta be all you need to find out a phone # through switchboard.com or *gasp* the white pages.

You might want to read this if you are thinking about taking it without permission, it's a great read! http://www.scrapmetalforum.com/lets-...-stealing.html

Anyway, I would try to track down the owner. Shouldn't be too hard.

If there's a license plate on the bus, write it down and take it to your DMV. Some will tell who it is. Some won't.

in the state of Florida it is legal to remove non attached property from real property with the verbal permission of the controler of the property i.e. the owner, renter ,manager etc. however to sell or otherwise dispose of that property.take a whole lot of other legal hoops to jump through.

I would get written permissiom from the controler of the property to cya.

I spent a day in jail andwas charged with grand theft Auto when I removed 8 abandon junk cars from property owned by Walgreens drug stores at their request. and a year and several trips to the court, when it became a legal question. Wallgreens of Deerfield IN suddnly never heard of MCW in Panama city Fl or asking me to remove those cars. fortunately I was able to get phone bills that showed the judge Walgreen in Deerborne had made a phone call to me after they denied knowing any thing about it. get written permission. Just sayin.

Really ? You have to ask if this is stealing or not ? Your kidding right ? If you have to ask this question I'm afraid your parents and teachers failed to teach you any morals

Assuming unauthorized possession of it would indeed be theft. DMV reports are still free here, and the County Assessor' Office has the land records. DMV report may not be accurate.....who knows how many times it has changed hands since the last time a title was issued.

perhaps i should have restructured my post because the main information i was looking for was how to track down the owner. i don't even know if i have the tools to remove a whole bus anyway but sure would be fun to try.
