    cast iron and air con stuff

    Hi, two questions...



    Is cast iron scrapped at a steel price? I have an old sailbout with a cast iron keel that weighs about 12,000 pounds and was wondering what kind of price to hope for.

    I understand that now thanks to the copper thieves you need a license to scrap A/C components?

    Cast ususlly pays a few cents more per pound than light iron. If it were lead it would be worth more.

    Depends where your at and the yard, here in Kansas cast pays far and above even prepared iron.

    Yeah, that is something you would have to check with your yard on. I used to build sailling yachts and all the I worksd on had lead ballast in the keel. Have you checked it with a magnet? A magnet will stick to it if it is iron and it won't stick if it is lead.

    It isn't lead....it's rusted and pitted. Local yard said they would pick it up. I have to cut up the boat first...
