Just curious to see how many out there have tried to connect with your customers through Twitter, Facebook, etc? Any success?

No, because your scrapping area is local while the social media is global. They don't fit.

Not for everyone. There is plenty of shipping going on just between forum members. Just look at all the "national" buyers threads.

To answer your question, my company so far, has not, but we are looking excitedly into the idea. I feel that every day we don't have a facebook page is money down the drain. That said, my company works a bit differently than most around here.

    Also, see this recent thread.

[QUOTE=WireBuyer;130528]Just curious to see how many out there have tried to connect with your customers through Twitter, Facebook, etc? Any success?

YES! But, I have not setup a "page" on FB, or a separate Twitter account, for what I do. I simply share some of my days, stories and what I am doing, just like I may do at times, here. I have had a media professor, from a University in nothern Ohio, drive 4 hours, not once, but twice now...with a van load of equipment, that they gave me!!! That is just one example. There are many more.

Social media is a great tool. To use it well, you need to... use it well! That may sound lame, but I have built a presence in social media over many years now, and what works for me, may not work for someone else. I just be me, share my life, and for me that works.

Others I have seen get good results setting up an official page on FB, or a dedicated Twitter account, on LinkedIn, etc... but I have also seen people who have bit the dust using those venues, too! If you are going to "engage" in social media, you have to be willing to "engage" with people who post or ask questions. This is where I see people fail. They set it up, post for a few weeks or months, and never really "engage" people on it. It is not enough to just post an event, or pics of a trip to the yard, it takes time, and it takes being active, for those venues to bear fruit.

my 2. dat all ;-) BroJer

we have pretty good sucess on posting in the "yard sale" type groups on face book. We buy/sell alot of laptops on there and sell quite a few desktops on there as well. pretty decent amount of buying old/obsolete towers as well.
