Ebay is a cesspool.....I quit pay pal when I heard ebay was getting involved and not long after they acquired it they really locked sellers down with new rules and fees.
I spent several years hanging around the ebay Q&A chat board and saw every possible scam and loophole on a daily basis.........I still buy but have never sold there.
most of my purchases are these days are paid for with cash or USPS money orders.
Even my $1500. 72 Sportster was paid off in three payments of $500. cash but I was only twenty minutes away from the bike and the seller had his phone number on the auction so we talked before I bid and I layed $500 cash in his hand the next day after winning the auction and after looking the bike over.
On all ebay transactions I always check sellers feedback first then email the seller and ask about alternative payment before I bid.
Anything over 20 or 30 bucks I usually us money orders unless it's a local pickup.
I've done real well on CL where you deal with your customers by email and phone before ever meeting or turning over an item to them.
My last two trades have put a 99 H-D Evo on a 1957 panhead frame and a 78 limited edition Vette with 82,000 mile on the body and less than 10,000 on a new 350 GM crate motor in my driveway my total cash investment in my part of those trades was $4800.00
I'll turn the Vette into another harley before the snow melts I hope......
