Shell brass, is it worth it?

Was at my local yard today looking through gaylords of non-ferrous and saw some filled with shell brass. Asked about pricing and they said board price for selling was 6.00 a pound. If I buy at least half a gaylord it would only be a couple of percent over market. Is there enough of a market for it to justify buying that much (I can sort all I want before hand)?

Joe are you referring to spent shell casings? If you are then I think there's good money in selling them for reloading. As much material as you move I can't imagine you having the time to sort, list, sell, and ship however.
If it wasn't for the $ in $crap, it would just be.....

Rusty, I have a son-in-law and grandson who could sort but I would have to find a bulk buyer.

Not if the government keeps buying up all the ammo. Reloadable brass is going to do nothing but climb in price over the next 3 to 4 months since good ole Obama and the crooks on the hill just bought up about the next 3 months of ammo manufacturing in the US. Why does department of homeland security need another 21 million rounds to add to the 1.6 billion rounds they bought in the last 10 months. Reloadable brass is about to go threw the roof if you ask me.

i can get 3.50 a lb best around here. I would think if you try to get a lot of 2.23 and 5.56 you might be able to get a little more because of shortages in these calibers. If you could reload it then you will be making a lot more money but would take a lot of time! There is a huge demand for ammo and more people are reloading their own i would say its gonna be tight for profit at that price because you would be buying on speculation that prices would go up.
Tough call i would leave it

I'm headed to the yard with a load of various calibers in few minutes. I'll let you know how it turned out this afternoon.

Just got back. The shell brass went with all the other brass for $1.70/lb.

The shell brass needs to be kept separate and run a magnet through it.

I threw everything together. Some was silver-colored but I didn't think it was aluminum. Got the brass price for the whole lot.

Aluminum casings? can't say I've ever ran accross any of those, ...just brass (and think nickle coated brass) as well as the cheaper steel casings.
As for reloading, I don't think many reloaders will bother with the .223's . ...now that might also change with some of the new proposals in the US.
Serious reloaders are really reloading to ensure a consistant accurate round for a particular firearm, which will typically be for a bolt action and less
    likely for a semi-auto/assault rifle.

Reloaders and people who reload their own ammo. Ammos expensive, thats why there is such a large market for spent casings.

only flaw that I can see with reloadable brass, is you con NOT find components to compliment it.. one might cast his own bullets, but primers and powder are essential, and virtually impossible to find.
