Looking for a scrap yard that can take apart a 60ft Barge on the NE coast

I won a floating scrap boat in VA and trying to find a scrap yard that can take it. cant seem to find to many that are located on a river or ocean. anyone have any ideas. All my google searches keep giving me 'salvaged parts' yards.

My first question would be why would you "win" a 60 foot barge and not have a good plan on what to do with it????

There are a few threads about boats, the problems you can have trying to scrap a boat, and why a lot of owners sink unwanted boats. You have a barge. How are you planning on moving it?? Do you have a tug??

Maybeeeeeeeee you can sell cruise tickets. yea yea yea ... I hear that one of the major cruise lines is losing customers

I hope you didn't pay for this item yet. Do you even know what next months ferrous market is going to do. Its going down how much who knows but its not going up or sideways. Walk away from it. You might have thought you got a deal but to be honest with you its probably only weights 60 tons or less depending upon building materials and what the barge was used for. A full river barge open top only weights 200 gross tons. If it has to travel a far distance to get scrapped more then likely you are gonna pay more to move it then its worth. Good luck getting your money back. This reminds me of the saying the blind leading the blind.

With gas/diesel being up around 4.00 right now the cost of moving the barge would be significant even if he owned a tug, if you were to hire someone, the cost would greatly increase. Welcome to the "boat" (Break Out Another Thousand) world. Nothing is cheap with boats (including disposal). I agree with Pistone, walk away.

Thanks for all the input guys as much as some of you think it's a bad idea or even make it seem like I'm dumb for doing so I just wanted to know if anyone knew a yard that could take care of boats. I know all the logistics in it but it was just a simple question guys. I do appreciate the two cents but ****.I have done this before but it was a few years ago outta Staten island when I just litterally had to take it to nj. But they don't take boats anymore and was looking for maybe another place. Even with the expenses I still made some nice bank. And yes it was won. It was a local auction in va.

Thank you libertytow I'll check them out.

....there is no comment for this other then..

To the orginial topic, there is a yard on my sandbar off of NC along the water, Can't recall if it's sound side or ocean side..not that it matters, with all the new inlets we have thanks to the storms last year, you can get to the sound rather easily..lol. They are located in wancheese, but can't say if they do boats. Knowing the yard owner an his liking to make a buck I'd say it can't hurt to ask. If the va leads don't work out let me know an I'll be glad to grab you some contact info for them. Doesn't hurt to ask...usually. lol

Trust me, we're not making it seem like your dumb for your purchase, you are handling it all by yourself.

Taking that much metal without knowing what price you can get and what the logistics are to get paid sounds like a good idea to you???? How do you know it was even a good buy no matter what the price??? It could easily exceed the value of the metal to transport it to someone that will pay you for it because you have no buyer and really can't tell what the value - transportation is going to be. You can't even tell what the value is because you don't know what someone will pay. It's a bad situation to put yourself in, but I wish you the best of luck.
