Sleeper couches? I'm just guessing that's what you meant. I've never come across a 600 pound metal frame in a sleeper couch. Lord knows how many I've carried over the last 18 years of moving furniture 6 days a week.

Can you get away with a smaller rig? Your current truck probably gets 7-10 mpg at best with a tail wind and down hill. Maybe it even has to use high test gas like mine did. Getting something in the 12-15 mpg range is going to put money in your pocket long term and consistantly. There is an upfront cost of course but your killing your profits running that truck.

I loved mine and wish I still had it. Was a great truck. Just not practical is today's gas price enviroment. If at all possible, change that part of your operation.

Well i always could get a small little yota for gas issues.. I do not nee the rig unless its carrying something... a car and a trailer would do just as well..

Yeah yeah, I get the same stuff, I drive a 79 Chevy and 84 Chevy. And to upgrade would cost at least 10k for a pickup not much better shape than mine just newer. And that to gain what ? Maybe 3 miles to the gallon ? Best advice I got is, if it's a 4wd add lock outs, clean bed out and don't carry round anymore extra weight than nessecary, tools, chains etc. also maintain it well, tune ups, changing oil and tire pressures. Adding side boards to increase cargo area is a must as well, or getting a trailer, which costs fuel mileage wise but increases payload dramatically.
Btw for you nay Sayers on fuel mileage, the new ford ecoboast, I've seen several that only only average 14-15 according to the display on the dash.

why so ... my daily driver is a 96 f250 460 engine 4x4 .... with a trailer .... i get under 10 mpg in the city and 12-15 mpg on the freeway and after gas i make about 150-300 bucks per day .... actually im glad i have a big engine cause hauling around 2 tons of iron-steel-trash- ... it handles it with ease ... had a straight 6 300 engine and it seemed a lil under powered ... never broke down but it hit its limit a few times

Here's your very own Yoda but I don't think he can carry very much as old as he is,,,

But to add to what taterjuice was saying, I started using the synthetic motor oil at oil changes and my car consistently gained 1-2 mpg.

Scrapmetalking, I have some questions for you.1) What do you do with the crt tube from your scrapped tv's? 2) What kind of skills do you have to have in order to brake down a tv? 3) why would you not brake down a microwave? If you lived close to me I would trade all my tv's for all your microwaves. One more question, what do you do with curcuit boards from the tv's?

How much is that 1 - 2 mpg as a percentage? I always looked on synthetic oil as a means to extend engine life. With the road salt up here, the body usually rots out long before the engine dies so a long lived engine isn't that much of an advantage. However, I drive 35,000 - 40,000 km per year - maybe I should go for the synthetic oil for the fuel savings.

Well, I run an older Taurus and it was running around 20 in town and 25-26 on the highway, now the highway is closer to 29-30 now and I'm just not sure in town. Your right tho, you can stretch out the oil changes but the engine turns over cold a lot smoother and faster.

That's quite a change. Definitely worth trying for a few changes to see if I can see a similar improvement. Thanks!
