This has to be said !

I have ranted here about the loss of integrity and morals in business several times over the years. So it is time for me to step up and give credit where credit is due.

last week my buyer was out of town on business (you all know who he is) and as happens with a companies with several employees, when the boss is away some of them slack up and make mistakes.

the mistake was in sorting a shipment and it was an obvious mistake. the shipment had been dumped by the time the boss returned so nothing could be reviewed.

I knew from past experience with OTHER companies (not scrap forum members)that sense the shipment had been dumped there was no chance that it could or would be rectified, except in this one case, I knew the moral integrity of this boss and his company.

I as more concerned over an employee not doing his job then the money at this point that kind of employee is a drain in several ways, and can quickly cost the company it's reputation.

With in 2 days of the bosses return the mistake was corrected on just my word, and the fact the boss was involved in the day to day operation of his company to know exactly what a normal shipment from me contains.

Thank you Mario for proving a company can have moral integrity and still be a leader in our industry. Had I the power 5 more gold stars would be added to your company.

    thank you sincerely

Butttttt, I'll play devil's advocate.... what if YOU were actually in the wrong? Sometimes people get overzealous in their belief they are right. Just watch an episode of cops or Judge Judy.

I wasn't wrong in this case. and I don't watch "reality shows" they have little to do with reality.

Cops and Judge Judy aren't "reality" shows per se. It just points out the more you believe it, think it, yell it, repeat it, doesn't make it right or true.

Good to hear. I had a similar situation that was corrected immediately as well. Good to see these guys "minding" their business and it's reputation.

gangal :whats up with you and drama.

i like the info on this forum but i may have to stop checking it if people keep trying to change every thread into a debate/argument. Some of the comments people ad are uncalled for and completely unrelated to the thread.

olddude. congrats on coming far enough in the business that your buyer trusts your integrity on issues like the one that occurred.

It's not about the drama. Some many maybe all of you perceive what I say or do as drama. But I see a lot of handshakes and back slaps around here which really doesn't teach anybody anything. You want me to contribute something to this well here is my contribution. Maybe we should consider sending a letter stating a perceived or assumed value of the goods we ship off to these buyers. Included with this statement is a a line that says if the declared value is over above or different by 10 percent of what you claim send me an email call me or let me know.

I'm not about the drama rather I'm more about actually trying to get an actual discussion going.

Mike has been a long standing customer (Several years) of ours. I have a pretty good system in place and I was able to aggressively attribute the correct breakdown on his settlement. I was willing to overpay a little then underpay to maintain this relationship and rectify the other problems that were internal aka my fault.

I lead our organization by example ,"handshakes and back slaps". This transcends from the warehouse to the office, from the top to the bottom. There is ALOT to learn from that.

soooooo let me see. Guess I should start basing my business relationships, NOT... on "personal" experience, orrrrrrrr a long working relationship and trust, but rather...Judge Judy and Jerry Springer.

    OK... got it.

At this point I don't think there's anybody to blame on this whole matter at this point. But from your comment you just posted I also think that you also run into some of the problems that I do.

I personally would like to give ewasted a "backslap" for pushing forward even in the face of adversity........Many people on this forum rely on CashForComputerScrap for most of their income (at least I do)........Not to hijack the thread but thanks again and mistakes do happen (we are all human)..........To Gangel I do appreciate a good discussion/debate but perhaps this topic was one that really didn't need much debate.........I do agree if you are having problems with your buyer weigh all material before hand, take pictures, make notes, etc........I usually know about what each box I send off is worth after doing this for a while and as long as there are not major variations it is all good.................Oh well Keep Scrappin!!

Or find a better buyer, one you can trust, if they say something you know it's what it was.

Gsngel you need to calm down. if he wanted you to be a devils advocate than he would have asked for somebody to give thoughts on the matter. but he did not so next time read the thread before you comment.

Olddude just some observations not meant to be negative at all. You had a post a few weeks ago about the yard grading your material wrong and you getting paid the wrong amount. This kinda falls under the same thread. Remember you might be a little guy out there as far as buyers and scrappers but you have to have the mentality of a LARGE SCRAP YARD. Before you cash in and take the material in. You need to weight and tag every box, skid, item, etc. Call with the weights and get a clear price on said item before shipment. It clears up any questions you have before shipment and you convey to the buyer exacatly what you have. Don't know what it is email a picture to them and get a price. It saves you the headache of having your word against the yards word and will keep some good employees of someone (the yard or buyer)from getting yelled at about a mistake they didn't or were not clear about from there employer. Even though you are small you have to think BIG. You might be moving small amounts of material now but that small amount could grow into huge amounts soon you want to make sure all of your ducks are in a row before shipment. Just some advice.
