    Buying bulk computer lots

To the people that buy computers on here and buy bulk lots from customers, how do you deal with stripped computers? I'm paying $5 per tower and as of right now I'm not losing any money but I'm waiting for the day I buy a big lot and get a bunch of steel and motherboards. Is it pretty much luck of the draw or would I better off buying towers buy weight? It's easier for me to buy it being as I have a full time job and if I can cut out driving around time it ends up making more sense for my situation.

I do when it's obvious that it's stripped. It's a little competitive around here unfortunately so I figure $5 gives me an edge so I keep it, and I don't scrap everything. I got a good amount of resale (probably luck) from the stuff I get.

jghilino I know you do a good amount of buying when someone has say 30-40 towers. Do you open a few before buying or how do you treat the purchase? Appreciate the advice.

If you can look at them before buying, take a glance at the back ends and if there's holes back where the cards go then you have an idea,
alot of mine end up with no HD's.

I will still pay $5 cause the steel and power supply make up the difference on most but the best is the laptops just the batteries alone add that extra $1 but I bid on lots with laptops in them

I do not pop the covers off on large lots. I do lower my price based on the fact I know not all computers will be complete.

Hi, obaid79. How long have you been in the export business? You've surely been working somewhere, haven't you?
People may laugh at me, but that's ok. I laugh all the way to the bank.

I'd hate to start a new thread over such a simple question so I figure I'll post it here, I found a guy who currently has 25# of circuit boards, I haven't checked out the grade on them but I'm guessing they are all low grade because he said they came out of appliances (so they are not PC motherboards). Can anyone give me an idea of a price I could pay him per #? Thanks.

Also you calculate in the shipping especially if they are low grade. All you profit is eaten up quick with shipping fees.

Typically low grade boards like the #25 you mentioned...after pulling the low grade wire, al heatsinks and even the tatalitum pieces run about .20/lb here. Now make sure you have a buyer because not everyone buys those.

After labor and time I would not pay very much for them.... .20x25 lbs is a whole $5 retail...even adding a bit extra for the al and wires maybe you are at $10...so maybe a $1-2 IF I think I will get more stuff from the guy. I try to make $50/hr when scrapping...so I actually would lose some money to mess with those...ir I only do it if I got it free and there is nothing else to do.

Not really, cause if I did I would have them, as I'm sure most everyone here would.
And if they have a constant supply of them, then their not going to give away their "glory hole".

If you paid .18/.20/lb for towers your average complete computer would be 5.40 max except for older towers and large cases. All you would have to do is check from the rear to make sure the MB is there and you would not need to open it up. If you get a computer stripped with nothing but a MB and a case your profit margin is actually higher in the average transaction better yet if the cpu is on board.
