How are people making money like this? What does the average tower weigh, like 20 lbs or so? So $8.40 a tower. I guess there is a little profit, but hardly enough for it to be worth it in my eyes.
Yeah that's great and all...but...CAN I SCRAP IT!?

put a GPS locator in one, sell it to the yard, then see where that guy takes it. I'm sure it will end up on a container heading who-knows-where. I think the oversea's buyers are paying around $.60 per pound if you have enough volume....or so I heard from one of my scrap yards awhile ago.

A larger recycler in CA said they can sell whole PCs for $0.55/lb if they decided to go that way instead of breaking them down.

If you can buy in bulk and resell a lot of the components, you could make money all day long buying at those prices. Especially if you have a good mix of older and newer computers.

I agree. I have wondered how to be able to keep the quality of the units high though while still buying in bulk. You would almost have to go through and pick them one by one.

Great idea - I would be interested to see the outcomes of a nationwide project to what what everyone does with their scrap.

They have gotta be getting a decent amount. One of the other yards gets 0.45# for complete towers.

factoring the current gold price /board prices its a loss

you might get the rare one that has a green motherboard with 4 ram sticks and 5 cards in it and make money, but the average tower wont yield $8.40 right now.

I would pay 20 cents a pound or $4 per tower right now to go along with current market pricing. I base my pricing on the average machine so an off color motherboard, 2 sticks of ram and 2 cards.
