I won't be wronged. I won't be insulted. I won't be laid a-hand on. I don't do these things to other people, and I require the same from them.” John Wayne-- The Shootist

I read about the Manhatten project years ago & I always remember this quote.
Quote{
Y-12 is the World War II code name for the electromagnetic isotope separation plant producing enriched uranium at the Clinton Engineer Works in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, as part of the Manhattan Project.
Construction began in February 1943 under the management of Stone and Webster.
Because of a wartime shortage of copper, the massive electromagnetic coils were made with 14,700 tons of coinage silver from U.S. government vaults at West Point.[1][2]
Colonel Kenneth D. Nichols met with the Under Secretary of the Treasury, Daniel W. Bell, and requested between five and ten thousand tons of silver.
Bell's stunned reply was "Colonel, in the Treasury we do not speak of tons of silver; our unit is the troy ounce."
Thus the Manhattan Engineer District requested and was loaned 395 million troy ounces of silver (13,540 short tons, 12,300 tonnes) from the West Point Depository for the duration of the Manhattan Project. Special guards and accountants were assigned to the silver, and their responsible caretaking meant that at the end of the war, less than 0.0036% out of more than $300 million worth of silver was lost to the process, with the remainder returned to the Treasury.
Of course they do. At my yard you have to specifically ASK for bare bright, they claim it is insider information. Also you have to ASK for a bump if you bring in large quantities. Example, aluminum cans are 60 cents but if you bring in over 50lbs they will pay you 65 cents, but only if you request it. Nowhere is there anything posted about these so called policies. I have also stated before that some guys pay me more than others on some items. I had a guy tell me last saturday, Thanks for organizing all of this for us, i really appreciate it. Then when i got my ticket he whispered that he gave me a bump in pricing. I think its low, and i think its bad business.
Old saying goes like this "never assume anything" in business. Just break the word "assume" into its basic parts and you'll understand why. When you "ass-u-me" something it can makes an A$$ out of U and ME.
By the way, my yards pay in Net Ton.
Gah I need a new yard. Twenty a net ton for tin here. That translates to a penny a pound my friends. I wish I could find a yard with those kinds of prices that wasn't a few hours away
Around here $50 will rent you a big Uhaul for a few hours, wait till you have a big load and haul it the few hours,
We put about 18,000 lb of TV's in one.

We used to have a uhaul place idk if they left town or relocated or what there's a sign that says "no uhaul" out by the road lol I'm gonna find out what's up thanks for the tip all I got now is a truck with a twelve foot trailer I've fit about 3000 on it before though
All the yards I deal with have the price on the board listed by ton (2000 lbs) and listed out on invoice by pounds. I have never seen it otherwise.
That's a great tip for new guys to the game. Thanks for posting that. I'm a little smarter now thanks to you. Lol
I don't think it is the yard's way of riping someone off. The yard has worked with you for years and knows how you process your shred. This other guy may have more garbage in his loads and that is their way of compensating for it. I know that when I take stuff in to my yard, they see me pull onto the scale and know that I know where to go and what to unload where. Most the time the guys come over more to BS than to see what's in my truck. If the guy is busy working on the crane loading an outgoing truck then he will just wave and let me be. Taking in my other metals to the small scale they always look at what I have and just double check that I am getting the best price I can for what I bring in. I had a single 1LB piece of AL Siding which is .05 more than just clean AL here and he pulled it out and weighed it separate from my AL. Plus if its slow he will go through what I brought in and show me ways to get a better price and whatnot.
