My brother in law lives in Pennsylvania thew were replacing there alum siding they got 4 bids. When he asked if he could keep the old siding he was told by three of the compnys that he could, but then they would add $500.00 to the job! The last one was Lowes they said to keep it and they lowered the bill $500.00!

WOW lol. That's bullsh*t Its theirs originally, they up the ante because they can't take it. Probably long time ago, they wouldn't even care about the siding now and not worry about the aluminum now that everything is so high in prices everyone wants to make the extra cash. That's just ridiculous lol.

I needed a very specific siding on my house to blend in after we had finished fixing what the flipper dinked up and some other renovations as well- We have 3.75" Double Lap, Smooth, White Siding. They discontinued making it in the 80's. I pulled up to a job site that these guys were re-siding a house after a hail storm and asked if I could measure the siding.. It was a match. LUCKILY they had removed the South and West facings that were the hail damaged sections. I got to them before they started the East and North Sides and asked if I could buy up what I needed off of them. They agreed and said it was "$100 a square" They pulled 2 square and I only needed 1 or less but pulled out 1 square.. handed him a $100 bill and was on my way. That whole house was probably about 5 square.. so the $500 calculation seems spot on!
I'm so into scrapping.. When my Steel Toe Boots Wear out, I cut the Steel out of them and recycle the Toe!

If it's aluminum I'd try it for better than scrap. Maybe at a vintage architectural supply. Like Sledge said, if it's old, it's hard to find, and places that want to match their old stuff while doing a new add on or renovation will pay top dollar for the right stuff

Bear: I told the guys that I would pay them higher than scrap rate for it.. It made it worth their while to gently take it down.. I didn't think $100 per square was too bad, it was probably about $50 bucks or less in scrap here.. but I had 2 guys working and taking it all off for me.. so the $100 bucks seemed like a heck of a deal!

Years ago the people next door to my buddy's house moved out. The next morning the siding as high as you could reach without a ladder was missing all the way around the house.
