I don't fit in his profile. I guess I am somewhere between 3a and 3z. Owning a scrap yard doesn't fit in my plan, although a part of me would like to have one. In general terms I am looking to concentrate on large businesses and disposition of their equipment, offering services better than (or not offered by) my competition. I look for the opportunities undiscovered and the scrap I pick up is a byproduct of those. My goals have changed (or morphed) from what they were a year ago. But I also love to get my hands dirty and if I see a dumpster with some goodies in it you can bet I'm all in. Very few opportunities come without some measure of hard work, and I love the satisfaction of knowing I didn't let pride get in the way of providing for my family.

Your underestimating yourself Jeff Your not 3A-3Z In my book your A#1..(See I do have a sweet side to me)
I must admit that I have realized that my occasional battles of words on here with my good friend JGHILINO is not even LEVEL 1 worthy of this tools ability to rile us up and since I don't have the time(since I am somewhere above the level 3 category which I will designate myself but confused because it doesn't mention what level you are if you have a website)I wont comment on it. I am disappointed though because I have a good friend Richard who would love to sit down with TCGS and debate him but unfortunately TCGS doesn't know **** so they cant discuss this...I love you all whether you are Level 1 or level 3.

Even though I am probably the last horse to cross the finish line on this one in the race.. I will state my stance simply:
    1. I have a standing contract working as an Independent Contractor. I bill 40-50 hours a week.
    2. I have business contacts and hard work that brings me in scrap as a secondary stream of revenue.

In a nutshell: Every month Each and every bill gets paid in my house, there is Food on the table, my children are able to take advantage of camps or activities that a lot of people cannot afford, my wife and I own our vehicles and we have zero debt besides rotating monthly bills. I seize opportunities anywhere in life- whether that be a scrap "fudge machine" or the opportunity to build someone a beautiful room in their home.

I have refused the idea of categorizing myself except for one "title" and that is being a "Maximizer"- See opportunity.. take advantage of said opportunity and prosper.
I'm so into scrapping.. When my Steel Toe Boots Wear out, I cut the Steel out of them and recycle the Toe!

I was interested in buying an orange truck franchise but you just ignore all the business questions.

When you have a website and a company email (not xxxx@gmail.com) and are willing to show your business license, everything is legit, etc. PM me here and we'll begin to converse.

P.S. if I don't own a scrap yard but make $10k/month before taxes what level am I? I do have 2 semi's, 6 trailers and ~5000 sqft shed on 6 acres so I guess that could be considered just a yard.

I think it all boils down to this:

    Are you happy

    Yes = Success

No = You might need to change something

This isn't about keeping score by how much money you make, or how clean you are when you get home, it's about living a full happy life. If you are, then you are a success.

And don't let anyone tell you just because they have classified you at some idiotic description of some imaginary level that you are not going to make it. Stating that the only way you can is if you are at some invented level 3-4 with a substantial investment is the craziest thing I have seen anyone post about how to be a success on this site yet.

When I owned a grocery store we had a saying. "Success comes in cans, not can-nots"

I have a full commitment to my family. Hence I could work harder. I find more value in time than I do money, which is why I love my business so much. I can rearrange my schedule any week to fit my activities with my son.
As for how much do I spend? I spend about 60% of all the revenues on costs of goods sold and overhead. The 40% pays my salary and invests back into the company.

As for working hard, I do have plenty of hard work, but for the volume I do, its pretty smart work. I actually have some help as of recently. Better to get help then to break my back every Tuesday.

This is not a post about franchise help. There is not franchise opportunity available.

Wow. Tcgs, you might have started this thread with good intentions, but you're finishing strong with a really bad attitude and you've lost my respect completely. It might benefit you to learn how to express yourself better and elaborate on your ideas if you really want to be understood and a benefit to this forum. If you really just want to antagonize and piss on everyone here, as pretty much all of your posts would suggest, I'd appreciate it if you posted elsewhere. Thanks!

Tcgs, when you started claiming you owned a franchise, you turned this thread in part, a thread that had to do with your franchise.

Which by the way, searching the franchise database, there is no registered franchise for recycling by the name of "Green Truck" in either Az or Co.

I personally believe you just simply overstated what you are doing, realized you made a mistake, your pride and ego prevented you from admitting it, so you defended yourself and made it worse and then you became more and more upset as the question about your owning a real franchise, and your integrity, became more what this thread was about than the previous mistake you made in posting your little scale and where people fit into it.

We could all forgive you, and would think far more of you, if you just simply admitted what you did, apologized. Then we can all get back to what's really important and stop all this other garbage that serves no positive purpose.

I personally don't care how much you do or do not make. Success should not be measured so far as I am concerned, by how much you do or do not make. The only thing we can really judge each other by on this forum is by what we say, what we express, how we choose to conduct ourselves. Race, religion, where we live, how much we make, none of these things matter, only what we say and how we conduct ourselves,. It might serve you well to remember this fact when choosing in continuing to support your statements of unfounded half truths and misleading remarks.

And just a suggestion, but you may want to change your slogan to: "Changing the way you THINK ABOUT recycling". Just a bit a free advice, it makes you sound more intelligent and suggesting that if people were using their mind, they would realize how smart it is to recycle with you. Just a bit of free advice. See, I'm willing to still help you, now can you play nicely?

    Scott

Warning* before you start a scrap metal business consider this

I thought scrappers were scrappers. whether u walk around with a cart picking up cans or you haul cars. we are all doing the same thing. until I read all of this ridiculousness I never thought there was a classification. I get my money from other peoples trash. you get your money from other peoples trash. sounds the same to me.
