Whenever I come across things that could potentially help people expand or grow their business, I try to post.
I was talking with a scrapper I have purchased a lot of material from, he's trying to grow his business just like everyone else. He came up with a novel idea, so I asked him if he wouldn't mind me posting it on this forum, as he doesn't belong to the forum yet. He's not real proficient with computers and doesn't feel real comfortable using them.
He had his daughter write up a real nice bit on his business, what he does, and put it in a binder. He then went to a few auctions for houses and spoke with a few people about what he was doing. The idea was to find people who were buying houses that had junk that needed to be taken away.
And evidently business is booming, within just 3 months he's purchased a new truck, and another trailer.
He was telling me that people, when they abandon their home, leave all kinds of stuff behind. So what he did was lease a building and offer to store their stuff, so that the people who were the new owners of the home wouldn't have to store in on the property and could get to fixing the house right away. The catch being that if the people don't come back within the time the law provides for them to claim their belongings, he keeps them. If the people do claim their belongings, he has stored them on pallets wrapped in plastic so they can appreciate his taking care of their belongings, and word of mouth advertising spreads. But if they do pick up their belongings, he charges the people who won the house a small moving and storage fee, which they agree to before he removes the belongings from the house.
It seemed like a novel enough idea to post here. If anyone does decide to use this to grow their business, please post your results here for others to read, I would be curious to know as well.
