How to prepare an engine for the scrap yard ?
I have an aluminum honda motor to scrap off of a lawn mover, do I take it apart and pull the steel out of it ?
Remove the crankshaft, rods and seperate the aluminum pistons ?
I also have two junk chain saws that are scrap do I tear these apart or am I wasting my time ??????

Call your yard and see what they pay for cast ali, and for dirty ali, then figure out what your time is worth, beating the sleeve out of a lawn mower engine sometime is a pain in the pooper and some times it comes right out, being a Honda probably going to be a pain.

I sell my gas motors as irony aluminum. I'd rather spend my time braking down computer towers and servers. Just my .02

Depends on how you feel after taking that first one apart. I always take the engines off and sve them up until I have a few or so and then break them down in one day - just engines. To me, its worth separating all the cast from the steel.
If you turn it in whole, you will have to drain the gas and oil out of them.

I talked with a shop recently because I have a couple of small motors from mowers to see if they were interested in buying for parts. Turns out they didn't even want to see them before saying "no"... didn't offend me because there are a couple of other shops in the area (& some "off the radar" shops") who might be. I just thought selling for parts might net more than selling for scrap (& I still have the frames, etc. to throw in shred). These were older and well used (abused?) so maybe nothing there past scrap, but reduce REUSE recycle .... when feasible

yes dirty aluminum unless you can get the sleeve out, too much work for me
