Fed Ex One Rate

Is it worth it?

It seems that Fed Ex now offers one rate boxes. I'm trying to figure out if this is going to make business sense...



What do you think? Will it be worth it to you?

I'm not sure if it will be good or not. I'm sifting through their rate sheets to see if they are going to be worth it. It is more like they are competing with USPS regional flat rate...

Fedex one rate is DUMB. Read the details or ask your local fedex office employee. I asked the lady at the counter what the rates were for each box.

Her answer: "It is based on where you send it".

I replied "Then it is not a flate rate".

She told me if I was sending packages to the same locations frequently it would be the same price as long as it fit in the box.

No kidding.

It makes no sense and the clerks even agree.

The ONLY place I can see that makes sense to use them is if you are sending packages lest than 150 miles. After that....it is more expensive. PLUS, it seems one rate is based off of their more expensive "express" instead of "ground".

So if I understand from your comments so far, it's a flat rate to where you are sending it. Then if you send it again and it weighs the same (or less), it will cost the same rate (unless the cost has increased) - it should not matter how frequently you are sending things. If you send it somewhere else - that is further away - it is one flat rate to that destination. This is just the same thing they had before, right? Only it seems that with this flat rate, if it weighs less that the maximum weight for that flat rate, you will be paying more. Seems like circular logic (or a good marketing tactic) intended to confuse the consumer into spending more for less.

Flat rates and free boxes are likely a major factor in USPS downfall. Charging one person the same rate to ship a pair of shoes, as a guy who's shipping a 70lb brick of lead is not only unfair, it's just plain dumb business. Most of the "free" boxes(which other postal customers or the taxpayer actually wind up paying for) wind up in the trash or being used for storage bins in peoples garages and warehouses and will never garner a return of any kind.

It seems silly to me that Fed-Ex would wish to imitate such a practice

I'm glad this topics was brought up. Checking into this service has been on my to-do list since I've seen the commercials. It does appear that the boxes are larger sizes.

Yes...they seem to be a bit bigger....but the weight limit is less at 50lbs. There is some give and take I guess....

But again I mention that the "flat" rate is based off of Fedex Express. Fedex Ground is still cheaper than their flat rate. For me, the extra day or two doesn't make that much difference...

Us Alaskan love USPS flat rate, it save us a lot of money. But I have noticed that the large boxes have gotten smaller.

I agree 100%. I probably see at least 75 per week at my recycling center being thrown away. And that is just a town of 6000. My opinion, charge a 50 cent deposit on them in which you can get your cash back, subtract it from your bill, or exchange it for a new one.
